So I want to make a load that my girlfriend and other recoil sensitive shooters. On hodgdon website thhey say I can use trail boss and load 70 percent of mycase fulland get 1500fps, but I cantfind that power anywhere, would I beable to get similar results with h1000, or where I could find trail boss

Not familiar with willliams, do they havve a website, obviously very open to ordering online, I had hoped to do it through higginson powder but they are out of stock, as is the cabelas in winnipeg.

Am I missing something... did you say somewhere what you are loading the TB for? I load TB in .30/30, .44, & .45/70... it is very pleasant to shoot.

Oh yeah, I was planning on loading it for 300wm, I have a bunch of cheap 150grn round nose flat base copper plated bullets sitting around

TB or H4895 work well for reduced loads in just about anything... I favour H4895 for bottleneck cases such as the .308 and TB for straight wall cases like the 45/70.

Myself I'd buy a smaller gun in .308 or some other case that's half the 300's size just to cut down on the sheer volume of powder it's going to take just to push a 150 gr bullet at sub 7.62x39 velocity... Your barrel will thank you... TB can be quite dirty depending on the pressures involved...

But if you insist on downloading the big boomer for your "girlfriend" (ha ya rite) (jk) start here http://www.imrpowder.com/PDF/Youth Loads.pdf. As H4895 can be a bit easier to find.

Lol oh the classic my girlfriend doesn't like recoil lol, but since I reload it's more practical to have more powders and using my gun which has already had to much money invested in it I feel. But with those light bullets listed in that link and the low amounts of powder it could also be a cheaper practice alternative. Oh a few people have told me that a 7.5lb 300wm is to light

If you pickup Lymans Cast Bullet Handbook there are a lot of reduced loads meant for cast bullets but I've swapped jacketed bullets of the same weight for many of the loads and it works great. I've got my .300WM shooting with .30-30 recoil and still grouping around 1" @ 100yds using H4895 and loads from the Lyman book.

Some other powders for reduced loads are Unique, 2400, 700x, 800x, Bluedot, Herco, and some others. Only snag with those is the charges will take up only a tiny portion of the case so you could accidentally double, triple, or sometimes even quadruple charge and not have the case overflow. Trail Boss is always said to be safer as with a minimum 70% volume charge it's impossible to double charge and not have it all spill everywhere. With the others you just need to double, triple, or even quadruple check the cases with a flashlight before seating the bullet.

I'm glad you started this thread Transam. I had been looking (unsuccessfully) for some TrailBoss . . . the tip re Williams Arms (thanks Newmer) worked out good for me. I phoned and got them to put a can on hold (along with some other IMR powder I can't find locally). I want to try the TrailBoss in a .458 Win. Mag. Good luck in your search to find a local source.
