That is just obscene.........but if someone else was paying to fill it :)

And thanks for reminding me why I MUST get a bayonet .

does anyone sell or know of a short sword type bayonet (eg. 18" to 24" long) that will mount to the M14?

kinda like this:

The M1905 fits the M1903 and M1 Garand and maybe adaptable to the M14, it has a 10 blade. The M1905E3 has an 7 inch blade.

The M1905 and M1905/1942 are 16" bayonets, where as the M1 and M1905E1 are 10" bayonets, with the E1 being a cut down M1905 or M1942.

While I am no bayonet expert, I have done my best to collect all variations (minus the M5) of the Garand and Springfield bayonets. I can tell you, that I did double check first before pointing it out, there is no M1905E3 bayonet, and I assume you mean the E1 which was not a 7 inch blade but a 10 inch blade. The M5 Bayonet is only for the Garand, it uses the same blade as the M3 Fighting knife/M4 Bayonet for the M1 Carbine. This same blade was later used on the M6 bayonet for the M14 and later on with the M7 for the M16.

While it may be possible to alter a M1905/1942 or M1 Bayonet to be used on an M14, it will require the the muzzle ring to be moved or the hilt to be replaced altogether. The Bayonet lug on the Garand is located under the Gas system, so when the bayonet is fixed to the Garand, the tang and grip are basically slid against the gas system while the hilt/muzzle ring extend past the gas tube and encompass the Gas cylinder lock/muzzle end of the barrel. With the M14, the Bayonet lug is part of the flash hider and extends down from the line of the Barrel and side in front of and in line with the Gas System. When a bayonet is fixed to the M14, the tang/grip are parallel to the bottom of the barrel.

My first ever project rifle. I probably spent too much money and time, but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. :)

What did you use for a releasing agent for the JB weld? I've been thinking about bedding mine with JB weld as well.
