Hi everyone,

I'm debating between the 8" and the 12.5" barrel for a new Dlask DAR-22. Which one(s) do you own, and which would you choose now?

Bonus points for your thoughts on the reliability of the Xtreme (Bentz) chambering and Dlask's CNC 10/22 bolt...

Thanks everyone,
Cal.

I have the 12.5" and I really like it. My only complaint is that the threading on the muzzle is too long and many accessories don't seat all the way. I have the bentz chamber and like it also but nothing will extract a live AE22 40gr or CCI Standard Velocity 40gr from it including a modified stock extractor plus a VQ and 2 other aftermarket ones. It don't find it a problem, how hard is it to fire the chambered round in most situations anyways. I also thought the balance was very nice at that length in my gun, less so with the 8" but a different gun so take it for what it's worth. I don't like the 8" which I don't own but have shot with quite a bit unless you are adding a fake can or some other longer accessory. Maybe a needless worry but it just seems to me it would be too easy to get your hand in front of the muzzle by mistake, but that's just me. It's also noticeably louder with the same ammo.

i have the 8 and 20(?) and ive shot the 12.5

personally for me on the Boyd stock i prefer the 8.
makes a nice small package.
ill post a pick of both for ya at the end of this post.

as for accuracy there really is none or not enough to matter differences in 22 barrels when it comes to accuracy and length when your talking 8/10/12" the more important question isnt length but rather quality of the barrel.

as for the Extreme chambering i run both, in my shorter blaster i run the sporter, in my tack pusher i run the extreme but i also run the long barrel on that one.
i would recommend the sporter for anyone who is making a blaster.
the extreme is really only good if your planning on making a bench gun, it also makes it harder to shoot ammo as the extreme chambering is shorter and will limit you as to what ammo's you can shoot with it.
the sporter on the other hand will handle all.

the Dlask bolt i cant help ya with.

as promised....

8" with a compensator on it (4")

both on the Boyd stock that you can get from Dlask.

your exactly right about the threading.
Dlask threads his barrels longer then all the add on's i could find on the market.
so either you have to run one of his thread protectors or brakes or get a custom made one and specify the length of threading you need (which is what i had to do)
OR get a spacer made from a metal shop, which is what i did when i was running a TS comp.
think i actually have a pic of mine with the space on it.... sec ill go look.

this is with the Tac Sol comp cranked on tight, you can see the space, it needs another lap or 2 drilled into it.
thankfully getting a custom made one is only a couple more bucks.
getting it shipped up to canada is the painful part!

I have Dlask barrels in 8"/10"/12.5"/18 (and multiples of each)... my favorite length is the 12.5" for balance, carry and offhand accuracy... if you are building a bench gun, then go with the 18" or 20" with Xtreme chamber, polishing the chamber will take care of any "stickiness" and it only takes 10 minutes to do. Joe's Sporter chamber is much tighter than the factory sporting chamber. As for the thread stem length, just run a tap into whatever product you are adding...

Great points wayup!
The dlask barrels a mich better than stock. They are alot heavier so keep that in mind. Like he said, the longer you go, it turns the hun into a benchrest only gun.
Joes work is great. There is difference in loudness between the barrels and alot more than the stock barrel. So pleaze keep that in mind also.
If you want to do offhand shooting IMO the 8" barrel is great but only for short distances. I found that the 8" barrel compared to stock and my tactical solutions barrel, really opened up after 50+ yds. So please take that into account.
It really depends how far you want to shoot and if you only benchrest or shoot offhand aswell.
Dlask bolt os great. Got it on sale a few months ago for about $90! Its about $110 now.

Being in BC, know that if you're planning to hunt with it, a 12.5" is good to go, the 8" is not legal to hunt with. That being said, I have a 12.5" sporter on mine and it's nice and accurate.

Would you not want to use a crush washer between the barrel and accessories?

Sk

I prefer to properly time the brake etc... as opposed to a crush washer... this way the transition is seamless... I also taper my brakes back to the barrel diameter for a cleaner look.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. Can anyone note the weight of the 8" vs the 12.5" in a Boyd's Evolution stock? I've heard people commend the balance of both the 8" and the 12.5"...I'm really torn between them.

Thanks again,
Cal.

Yeah right, that's crazy! I've harvested many illegal chickens then......
This is news to me!!!

From the BC 2012-2014 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis

Page 8:
Handguns: It is illegal to hunt with a handgun in BC.
See page 3 for definition

Page 3:
Handgun – is a firearm that is designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by
the action of one hand or that has a barrel less
than 305 mm (12 in.) in length.

Thanks,
Cal.

We'll I'm going to pretend I didn't see that. If a CO wants to bust me for it, then I guess I'm a poacher. For shooting grouse with a .22 in season. Hahaha thanks canada I feel so safe.

i think your ok.
the last time i checked the Ruger 10/22 isnt a HANDGUN.
all the quoted laws above are stated as handgun.
so unless your having your 10/22 reclassified as a handgun you should be fine as frogs hair.

Getting back on track...Can anyone note the weight of the 8" vs the 12.5" in a Boyd's Evolution stock? I've heard people commend the balance of both the 8" and the 12.5"...I'm really torn between them.

Also, has anyone ever done something as insane as having an Xtreme chambering in an 8"?

Thanks,
Cal.
