New Striker Fired H&K VP9

There are some downsides to beginning with a P30 and not a clean sheet. The grip and overall design could have been more efficient. Starting with a P30 dictated general layout designed around a hammer, hammer strut and spring assembly. If it was a clean sheet, it could have had a lower bore axis and thinner grip (no hammer and strut to design around) and the pistol would be smaller/shorter. Before someone says that bore axis makes little difference in shooting... I somewhat agree to that point, but I do prefer to shoot pistol with lower bore as they have less muzzle flip, different recoil impulse but more importantly.... The resulting pistol could be more compact, shorter in overall height even though it would have the same size grip, its a more efficient design making better use of space. Size is always important in a pistol as its a compromised weapon based on size. A smaller pistol with the same length grip is a big win, so its not only for shooting that lower bore axis is important.

Unfortunately adapting strikers to hammer fired pistols is here to stay as manufacturers try to stretch their R&D dollars. Sig did so recently as well by adapting the P250 to a striker and bringing out the P320. Although I think the H&K execution is much better, and more completely integrated compared to Sigs half assed attempt.

I completely agree with the bore axis, but the P30 has so little recoil it's almost a moot point anyway. Though I see this doesn't have the buffer on the recoil spring like the P30 and HK45 does so maybe that will be the difference in that respect.
Grip is 100% personal preference and no matter what these companies try, they will never satisfy everyone. I LOVE the grips on the P30 and HK45 and making them thinner wouldn't help at all, but I have bigger hands than some.
This should start a war........I've never held a 1911 that I loved the grip on. There, I said it. Lol.

The other sad reality is that as much as I like critiquing how concealable a pistol can or would be, I also accept that there's a 99.9999999999999999999999999999999% chance I'll never get to worry about it. :(

I personally enjoy the sport of shooting and I am not waiting for zombies or apocalypse, not that there is anything wrong with rich fantasy life. LOL. I think that a subcompact or compact pistol that has a shorter grips makes zero sense in Canada. All my pistols are are full sized, or have full sized grips. I write off Glock 19s for that very reason, much rather have a G17 with a full size grips. Along the same line of thinking, I prefer metal framed pistols over polymer, and single action triggers over DA or DAO. We dont carry our guns and a heavier metal SAO gun with full size grip is ideal for the range. This VP9 meet two of the three criteria, SAO trigger and full sized grip.

Ok HK fanboys, you realize that a Steyr L9 is priced under $600 and can't really be much lower in quality than this German thing? Just sayin'.

Hahaha, yes the jammomatic Steyr and a HK is definitely on par in performance

I'm fairly excited for this. Hopefully the mag prices for P30s drop shortly after this comes out

For canada we will get a threaded barrel variant to start with, and I'm sure they will make a compact variant of this to replace the p2000sk, and a long barrel version just like they did with the P30L.

H&K has finally caught up to Glock. Perhaps they are tired of being overlooked and seeing contract after contract go to the Austrians or to S&W.

Yep, I guess with the financial troubles they've been having lately, they realize a more competitively priced product is needed.

The rumor mill was that there were/are multiple variants on the way. A prototype in .40 is said to exist and I had heard that a competition version (long slide likely) was in the pipeline too.

Fairly excited about this but I expect it will be quite some time before we get them here (FRT etc.)

I never thought I'd say this.....

But that is one FUGLY looking HK!

Don't flame me cause I'm actually an HK fan, got 3 in my collection.

lol, that is the challenge for the next 5 years, to make the nicest looking striker fired pistol! because between this and the striker one, they won they ugliest MOFO in Europe 2014.

:nest:the striker one is uglier though... this one, is meh! but the Glock is nicer than THIS hk...
truth to be told.

lol

Regardless competitive shooters will still look away, the fact that I can drive 10mins to the Glock distributor to pickup any parts I want is what trumps any other polymer guns.

Until HK and their distributor start to actually support their products, this will be another hipster gun, like HK's other pistols.

I think my Glock 17C is better looking than this HK. BTW, my Glock is hands down the ugliest pistol I own, so that's definitely saying something...

While I admit this looks like a slightly molested P30 or HK45, it is not uglier than a Glock......I have both.

Glock is like the Volvo of the gun world, you know it will always work and keep you safe, but you don't show it off or brag about owning it due to it's looks. LOL

Hipster gun, haha, gotta head out to starbucks I guess. Not gonna lie I just pictured a stereotypical hipster holding a usp and it looked extremely out of place to me. Utterly hilarious picture in my mind though.

I don't expect this pistol to garner major sales here. Probably no more than any other HK, but I do expect this to be a solid success in the us and europe.

yeah, I can't wait to see those hipsters taking a selfy with their iPhones and posting sh!t on twitter like: Just another day at starbucks! #rockingmynewHK #Byatch #Strikerfired #Downtown

Dammit. Guess I better go buy some ugly clothes, stupid glasses, and a rundown barely running motorcycle so I fit in with all the other H&K hipsters! Though I still refuse to drink Starbucks sh@t coffee. Lol

Almost forgot these! #Glocksareugly #hashtagsarestupid

Already have a S&W M&P but this looks quite nice. The trigger on the M&P even wtih Apex drop in duty trigger is nice, but I wanna see what HK does with theirs. It looks very much like a PPQ though, maybe getting a PPQm2 with the button mag release may be a better alternative...

I loved shooting the HK45 and P30... just never really liked their mag release... But at this price point maybe I'll get one just so I can say I have an HK :) Hopefully local range will have it as a rental gun soon so I can try it
