Wanstalls Exclusive Chiappa Alaskan Scout 12" -- Limited Run

picked up a 20" version of this rifle on the weekend.

great experience at wanstalls, everyone was super friendly and the sale went smoothly.

i have a question about the rifle though as its my first time owning a "pistol" calibre rifle. what would be the heaviest load i could shoot through this?

would i be able to put some 340gr .44 mag +P+ (buffalo bore) through this without too much concern? or should i be keeping it in the +P and below range?

any suggestions for a round that can be used for protection against black bears or other predators?

TIA

I too am interested.

Picked 2 boxes of 20 of the Leverevolution stuff in 240 grain XTP. Hope to find something with more umph.

I like... I am just wondering when more people will start making s&w 500 magnum or .50 Beowulf maybe one of those in a ranch hand or mares leg with a ported barrel. there is one that is prohibited in Canada because it has a pistol grip.

No BS guys! I saw the FRT report from the RCMP myself. Canadian Tire in West Kelowna is again selling firearms, the firearms guy there showed me the report on his computer. I will try and get a copy of it and figure out to show everyone. Or maybe a link. It was dated June 06/2014

I' m only trying to help, don't shoot the messenger!...:)

Ya, sorry, jumped the gun so to speak. I cannot find anything in the list of doom that refers to the Chiappa.

There where allot of other interesting items, but nothing there for reference to said rifle.

bump,

anyone have any success securing some rounds with a bit more "umph"?

from my readings online it seems 250-300 grain hard cast flat nose bullets are the way to go in .44 for bear defense applications?

all the places i called seemed to stock 240 gr JHP's (AE, S&B, Fed, Win) and didnt have any flat nose hard cast stuff.

Apparently the RCMP have just announced making some of the Chiappa and Puma short lever guns as restricted!

Anyone know the real story to this?

They're slipping.
I'm surprised it's taken them this long.
I'm sure the fact that guys are in the bush with currently non-restricted holstered Rossi Ranch Hand "pistols" hasn't gone unnoticed.
Doesn't jive with the Mounties policy of maximum obstruction and hassle of law abiding gun owners for them to leave this alone.
If the LPC gets elected next year I'm sure they'll (RCMP + LPC) plug the short barrelled firearm "hole".

Hey Guys,

I just received more information on the RCMP FRT Report that I was referring to, apparently it involves a Chiappa Model 92 Pistol, manufactured in Italy, also known as the Bounty Hunter and Mares Leg. The description is as follows: Model 92 Pistol has a barrel of 305mm or 12" and a stock shortened to approximately 102mm (4") beyond the "tear drop" shaped lever loop. This firearm is classified as restricted.

This all started here in Kelowna when local RCMP were telling new Rossi 92 Ranch Hand owners they could not install a longer rifle stock on their Model 92 because that is altering the firearm description. Well this idea has also proved to be false.

My apologies to everyone! Since the CZ858 ordeal, who knows what the RCMP are capable of. If we keep each other informed, maybe ridiculous firearms laws can be stopped in their tracks...:)

Sounds like that FRT hits every owner of Ranch Hands or Mare's Legs. I can't remember under what detail those models were classed non-restricted since they are under the minimum length.

I kinda wonder if this has anything to do with the attitude of the members posted to the Kelowna, West Kelowna detachments???? Straight from Depot to first posting!! And going to change the world!! I don't see this looking over your shoulder when ever we see a Tahoe from the public in North and North central B.C. Also the Northern members are more focused on crimanls and not "JOE" average gun owner?? Just sayin!!!!!

The Chiappa Mare's Leg and the Rossi Ranch Hand with the 12" barrels are identical except for the brand name.
They were and are currently being sold as non-restricted in Canada.
Are these firearms restricted or non-restricted?
There are a lot of guys who bought these guns as non-restricted.
Some Canadians dealers are selling Mare's Legs with 9" barrels as non-restricted as we speak.
