Wanstalls Exclusive Chiappa Alaskan Scout 12" -- Limited Run

I do not think Chiappa makes any of there rifles in .454, but I could be mistaken.

You are correct, however Rossi makes them and Wanstalls sells Rossi.
For some reason though it's been about 5 years since a stainless Rossi .454 trapper made it across the border....... should have bought one then I guess.

Looks very nice. Personally, I'd like to see it in a caliber that is comparable to 45-70 gvt. Maybe 460 S&W mag or 500 S&W mag. This way the rifle would be ideal for bear protection and would make a great camp gun.

The way I see it, is I already have a short 45/70 (not a takedown granted, but still have one), and this just looked like a nice short light little blaster that I can throw in or strap to my pack. I've got confidence that a 300 gr hard cast FN will do what I need done by this. As always, YMMV though

I also have a 45-70 in a Marlin Guide Gun with a capacity of 4+1 which is plenty for a cartridge of that size. If they chambered the chiappa scout in 460 or 500 S&W, the capacity would be a camparable to the marlin guide gun and it would be equally powerfull, but in a smaller package. I've got quite a few grizzle bear around my property so I need to have a full power camp gun...

Too bad the beasty doesn't come as a solid frame, non-takedown model.
Folks that want a rifle in .460 or .500 S&W would have to get one built on
a larger frame than a Model 92 type due to the cartridge length. Think
1886 Winchester type action, as in Big Horn Armoury Model 89.

Got $3500.oo ready to blow?

The 454 Casull is no slouch.
I have a Rossi 92 in 454 Casull and the 335 grain hard cast lead bullets I use are churning over 2900 ft-lbs from a 20" bbl.
That'll drop any animal in North America including the great bears and won't get me any grief at the border because the barrel is greater than 16".

If you are going to hunt "GREAT" bears in nothern B.C.? You'd better bring a bigger gun!!! Over 2900 ft. lbs. is a 30-06 with 180 gr. bullet at 2700 fps. The .375 H+H are all over 4000ft.lbs.

I would suspect that hunting and defensive purposes have different requirements.

To a degree but at the end of the day it comes down to confidence and shot placement if needed.
Animals are not stupid and if you are confident they will pick up on it.

You guys have been watching to many T.V. shows!!!! When you are up close and personal . Bigger is Better!! Then of course there is The Hungry Hill Bears. They think there was 2 but they snarred one and when the 2 CO's came up close the bear snapped the snare and charged. It took 2 .338"s shooting multiple shots to put it down. The bear is a full mount at the Houston B.C. visitors centre. Walk up close and have a look then get back to me!!!!!! Talk is cheap!!!

Sometimes I think that they should call this forum CanadiangunEgos ... there sure are a lot of people that come here to show how much smarter and tougher they are than the next guy. Comments like "Go sit in the corner" and "Talk is cheap!!!", come on guys. I will continue to come here to check out what's new and available and keep my ego induced emissions to myself (I'm sure someone will point out that this comment is exactly that lol). Anyway, my Alaskan should be here tomorrow, can't wait.
