ORA Precision Rifle Match 3 - Sunday 15 Jun 2014 Stats up! Debrief here!

Maybe pull the 400 and add a 800 to give us one in the middle. Just a suggestion. Your the boss of course. And I won't kick and scream whatever you chose lol

If you're going to change a distance, it should be the 600. The idea of the match is that there should be more dynamic matches than deliberate ones. Otherwise, it just becomes F-Class with different targets.

I think Hungry's intent was to give people a taste of 1000 yards, while still keeping most of the match short range. It should be looked at as an opportunity...

I'm going to make a suggestion that we put a single Fig 11 or Fig 12 in the center of the target board rather than the two Fig 11. That would be a more reasonable target for 1k. The Fig 12/59 Type 'A' in the configuration we use for the 500 meter deliberate at NSCC SR would be ideal, if we can get those targets. Probably too late to order them though...

What do you look like? So I know to stay away from you when Barney puts us into our groups lol I'm not laying next to your 338 hahaha

Haha, well this is me, but honestly it is not nearly as bad now with the new muzzle brake as it was with the factory brake.

Fear not! Shooting beside this gun will not be much more distracting than shooting beside a heavily braked .308.

I have to disagree. At 1000 yards with a single fig 11 you can shoot for a V every time, with a most excellent chance of getting at least 3 points on a poor wind call.

With the double fig 11's you are closer to the edge when shooting for a V. Your wind calls have to be spot on so the chance of scoring higher points is more risky. Conversely, you can hold middle of the fig 11's, and let the wind blow you into more points.

Yes, but shooting a bunch of 3s isn't going to win the match. The 5s and the Vs will be had due to skill and not chance. A series of bad wind calls should result in a bunch of 3s before it results in a bunch of 4s , 5s and Vs because you were aiming at the center of the board and gambling.

Correct, but every "3" score beats the crap out of a miss. Remember this match is called "harassing fire". More so at 1000 yards. If I was a noob at 1K I would start between the fig 11's for sighters in order to guage my wind call. If the wind is constant (somewhat) then move to the fig 11's. I have found Mons range to be very fickle at times, but not as strong as Connaught range. Putting the single fig 11 in the middle will inflate scores. I am willing to take a sh*t kicking at this range if we misread the wind.

The problem I see with it is that a noob who decides to just aim between the two targets and hope the best will probably end up getting a higher score than one of equal skill who is actually trying to hit the center or one of the Fig 11's on the sides, but ends up dropping a bunch of shots off the board. I don't think that kind of a situation promotes marksmanship...

Hitting in a 4'x'4 area around a target is harassing fire. If you're hitting the target board at 1k, you're doing just that.

Yuk yuk yuk :D

See you all on Sunday at Mons Range. We will be working with the TR Practice director. All part of collaborating and cooperating to share the Mons Range. Like the buddhists say, "Ya works with what ya gots." :nest:

Cheers,
Barney

Awesome shoot today. 1000 yards was actually a hell of a experience. I hope we can do that more often. I had a lot of trouble with it but doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. Near the end of the match I started to figure out the elevation and got 3 on paper in a row. That just teases me now and makes me want to try it again.

Awesome shoot boys and great weather. Thanks to Barney and John as usual

The collaboration and cooperation was a bit one sided today. the 30 some odd practice shooters who came out for a day of shooting, instead had a day of waiting and frustration. While you guys were doing all of your short range shooting, we all sat for a couple of hours on the 600 yard line, wondering what happened to the 600 - 1000 yd practice day that has been scheduled for months. Two different events cannot be held on the same range at the same time.

Don't want to get into a pissing match here. Although we were shooting a match not a practice. And we gave up one of our matches just to accommodate you guys. We only shot 2 short range instead of three and then 2 long with you guys. It is not our fault that we have a lot of people and it takes some time. I felt John and Barney were very accommodating. And those of us who paid only got 4/5 matches but there was not a single moan from our side as we knew borden is a privilege and were happy to share with any other gun lovers, as Borden is a gun lovers Eden. And to add we waited almost a hour to move back to 1000 because you guys had entire city set up with tents, umbrellas, coolers etc. some towns in brazil don't have as much shelter as you guys needed to collapse and move.

In al fairness we both compromised yesterday, yet we all had a chance to shoot at Borden. Regardless of how much we both needed to wait. Be great full you shot at Borden period. Because that can come to a end.

Thanks John and Barney, that was a fun match, especially in light of the challenging logistics.

Also, thanks to you TR guys for being good sports. As Chago pointed out, we were lucky to have the privilege to use the range at all, as we almost got bumped for the Horse Guards, or whatever CF unit had the booking.

Cheers!

Matches take priority over practices. It doesn't matter which discipline the match is for, or which discipline the practice is for, or how long either was scheduled for, etc, etc, etc... A practice is the lowest thing on the totem pole; if it comes down to a conflict and something needs to be cancelled, its the practice that's going to be cancelled. If the match director is generous enough to share the range with the other discipline on his match day, it's up to the other discipline to conform to the match timings and to do everything they can to avoid being disruptive to the match. That would include moving cars back behind the 1000 yard line during lunch when they know that 1000 yard shooting is planned for the afternoon.

This thread isn't going to turn into a debate about that. If you don't like it, I suggest you either bring it up at the next general meeting or have your discipline's representative bring it up at the next counsel meeting.

Thanks to Barney and Tony for sharing and JB as usual for making the whole thing work as best it could. Lots of fun had and I found out that a 16" AR can be used to hit things at the 1,000. A great group of folks out at PR!
