I just found out we get israeli made tavors, well actually in the back of my mind i sort of knew most guns sold in america even from foriegn companies tend to build most of the parts in the u.s due to u.s laws.
BUT i've recently heard people complaining that we in Canada get israeli tavors and not american made ones, now i would rather my money going to a north american economy, but other then that whats the difference?

I know its redundant in a way since whether i like it or not i will be getting an israeli made tavor as my first officially owned by only me rifle but i was just curious about the difference if their is any.

P,S

Any good budget (or atleast ones with good value that i can save for, or buy a cheap one then save for my "final") scopes, mods , accessories.

I know i would like a foregrip on it which seems pretty simple to install, and perhaps a laser/light combo ON THE SIDES. Since i really like foregrips on my rifles.

Unless the micro tavor comes in 18 inches in semi auto in the next 1.5 years this looks like to be my main rifle setup for hunting/backpacking/tactical sport shooting/plinking.

PM sent.

Biggest difference? Canadian legal barrels, no QD sling mounts.

Used to be lots more differences

Ah tv press pass, your youtube video review on the tavor (which i watched before i was a member here) along with every other youtube gun reviewer were the reason for my choice of the tavor.

The no qd sling mount must be what the fellow canadian youtuber was complaining about as it is minor, but theirs no reason the idf shouldnt have those as standard as its just Quality of life thing.

The barrel was an obvious one, i wouldn't want ANY bullpup with less then an 18 inch especially in 556 it just seems insane, i really don't know what the idf are smoking as the rumor is they are switching out the tavor as their main service rifle to a 13 inch mtar.

When i visit israel i hope to go to I.W.I and ask them myself (my mother is jewish, so i can get a near free trip and if i want to serve in the idf, i can also become a dual citizen which i may do as it can broaden my buisness opportunities)

The mtar to me is more then just a mini tavor, it is a product improved tavor and one with an 18 inch barrel would be my ideal rifle as it has better ergos.

Edit: Also thanx for the link you pm'ed me, i couldn't pm you back saying thank you because you need to clear your inbox!

Hey man, thanks for watching! My PM box fills up too fast these days. I need to stop buying gear!

The IDF is pushing wider adoption of the MTAR (aka X95) but remember that a lot of their infantry are A) conscripted into the military and B) expected to fight in close quarters.

The Tavor family is very much a product of Operation Cast Lead, which saw lots of infantry in dense urban environments. (go read about it!) Being able to shoulder and fire the rifle one handed in a standoff while your left hand operates the radio/handsignals/zipties is something they actually do. Being able to get in and out of vehicles in a hurry doesn't hurt either.

No problem, and yes most of the idf is actually conscripts unfortunately (in my opinion). They actually recently cut more funding that was going towards professional soliders, i was looking into carreer opportunities but it seems its not a very good basket to put your eggs in especially with the recent unpopular decision to cut more funding to the professional non conscripted units.

I wonder why the 18 inch rare imported u.s tavors are still restricted here? But then when i try to use logic with gun laws in canada or the world, migranes happen.

Would you recomend i get the newest canadian gen version then? I also want to plug that link in this thread for people using search so this thread serves a purpose for eterinity.

OFF TOPIC:

I know that every Israeli citizen (men 3, woman 2, i believe off the top of my head) have to serve at the age of 18 in order to finish their high school, my israeli friends describe it as almost a tax and sadly they get payed very little. This detered me from joining as no matter what you have to join as a "conscript" then only after you become a citizen you have a small, even slimmer now due to the unpopular decision to reley more on conscripts then professional soldiers. Went way off topic here but i'm very opinionated on this, i believe a soldier who is their on his on will is much more effective then conscripts and its a shame that they don't take a more modern aproach as if i were to join i would be getting payed less then what canadian welfare gives you (hint its not liveable) except you get food and boarding.

In order to understand what is going on in Israel you have to live at least couple of years there. You need to feel it by your skin.
Professional army is Israel almost impossible due to multiple facts such as size of territory, external enemies, internal terrorists, etc. Every man and woman has to have basic army skills in case of war, that's what history taught Israelis.
Micro Tavor is not going to be adopted by all IDF, only those who mainly fight against terrorists in cities will be equipped with it, as far as I understand.

For me personally, my 'Made in Israel' Tavor will always be more desirable than a 'Made in USA' Tavor.

That just might be personal bias showing through, but since it is my Tavor, my personal bias is all that matters.

Close range is certainly the norm' over there. IIRC, for a citzen to get permission to mount a scope on his privately owned high powered rifle, is pretty much impossible in Israel.
Even army snipers had ludicrously few secure training areas to conduct range practice at anything resembling long range.
