New 1 mile long range soon to be open

So I want to post up and say I went for a visit to the range yesterday. It is looking very promising. Both myself and stevesummit of Zombie Supply Canada made donations in the form of AR500 steel from Edson Fish and Games (the approved vendor)in the amount of $1000 dollars in exchange for lifetime memberships. We both felt that this was beneficial to both us as shooters as well as the club. It ensures we have quality targets when we go out there and gets the club closer to completion.

I would strongly urge anyone interested in getting lifetime memberships to jump on board. For the remainder of 2014 memberships are cheap at$1000. If you wish to donate steel targets, Edson Fish and Game will accept steel donated from Zombie Supply Canada. This Ar500 is 5/8 and water jet cut to ensure the quality of the temper. Zombie Supply will offer a 10% discount on any orders placed towards lifetime memberships at the Longest Mile Range in an effort to help the range get the most steel possible.

For all the people that have wanted to see a long range facility, now is the time to step up and support the guys who built one. From Leduc it took me about 2 1/2 hours to the gate. From Spruce Grove it was 2hrs.

Wow guys calm down. Did I bash the OP or did I clearly say I don't know how it is out west but in ontario that wouldn't fly. I was just asking. I didn't realize you had shares and were worried.

You've answered your own question. Ontario has some of the most restrictive government policies outside of Quebec. The idea that citizens (gasp) would want to shoot guns (my gawd!) at anything except their Playstations shocks the folks in Queen's Park who think they know better. In my experience, it is a, 'can't let anyone get one over on the authorities' attitude. Nokomis range was built with almost zero CFO interest or involvement.

Fellas,

I know this sounds really silly, but if one was to google maps Edson, would you be ballpark to the range?
So, is it north, south, east or west of this town??

curious here.....

It's 35min southwest. You go west to hwy 47 (the Robb Road) then south 35.5km. Then it is 6.7km off the highway on the L road. If that helps.

WTF Chago! You think they would not get Alberta CFO range approval before building this? Doing so would be a fool's errand.

Personally I don't see anything much different (range construction) then what I would see today at Bull Meadow Range in NS or Homestead Range SW of Calgary.

Thank you. This only took 3 years and two locations as the first location was stone walled by residences as the first location had a few residences with in 5 km so a concern was raise due top perceived noise. Development permit did not get approved and that was after the land was acquired. Major set back man! Persistence and hard work got a new location. No residences with in 5km so bring your 50's. Dawn to dusk even on Sundays....

You are so lucky.

I am going to take my vacation time in Alberta from now on. Are there any accommodation nearby for outside from Quebec like who would like to try is .50BMG on a super range like yours.

regards.

Amusing outside is camping? Yes we have are surrounded by crown land and you can random camp on vacant crown land for 14days. If you want to camp longer move camp every 14days... Edson has many hotels and is 30 minutes away. Range will have day use area and lots of parking once we get gravel....

Listen don't take this wrong way. I'm super jealous your not in ontario cause that looks like a awesome place to shoot. As a business though I'm a little worried. I don't know what rules are like out there. But like in ontario the CFO requires incredible berm heights etc for even 200 yards. Hence most clubs here are 100 yards. Plus having that place run for guys to set up targets etc at 1600m. Will they be using trucks? Will someone be running the place at all times to make sure it's safe? I dunno. This seeks very home made to me. And don't get me wrong I'd give you $80 to go their even once. But I just don't know how this place won't get shut down by the legal type. Maybe I'm missing something

Trucks only in dry conditions. It will be a work in progress for a while until we regroup and get more capital for gravel. Quad will be a good tool if you are shooting paper. I have shooters that will be coming from Edmonton and will be bring there mountain bike. Now they are die hards... They are all ready planning their vacation and purchased a new wall tent. The new AR 500 targets are high quality hope to hang them this week if we get our letter back from the CFO!! Inspection was completed and we have fixed up one deficient back stop that was found during the CFO's inspection. One out of 25, we are happy with that!

The steel is high quality, very clean, hope to hang it up shortly. The club would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members. Everyone will get a lot of use of the steel. Seeing that we will have the big guns it is nice to start with steel that will last. There are 25 back stops on this range and 19 of them are on the rifle ranges and could have steel at them. If every one chips in then it is not such a burden for few or take years to out fit enough steel to make this one of our favourite destinations. I will be purchasing life memberships for my little tikes as they will be held in trust by yours truly until they are of age.

I work around Edson a lot, a lot down the Fickle Lake Road, will make sure to get membership and bring some guns next hitch!
