Tavor - light primer strikes - not firing.

Okay yesterday I took the Tavor apart to apply a liberal amount of frog lube and then went to the range today and I was only able to fire 2 rounds.

At first I thought it may have been the new mags and tried ones I hadn't had issues with before the same result.

Very light primer strikes. So I field stripped the rifle and found that the firing pin spring was actually damaged and not allowing the firing pin full movement.

I now need a new firing pin spring, where can I order these from and would the estimated ETA for arrival be?
 
I taught since the tavor was milspec and use by the idf it was bomb proof and not capable of failling? :stirthepot2:

Ps. How is a broken spring stopping the pin from giving a proper primer stike? Broken piece jamming inside and stoping the pin from completing her full movement? You should take out the spring then try it.
 
The spring is binding on the outside of the bolt and not allowing the firing pin to extend past or into the bolt face.

So for those not using the spring have you ever had a slam fire?

I was very surprised to have a dead mans gun yesterday because of such a simple part, had I known it was okay to run without I would have been shooting all afternoon.

Yes. After closet review of the spring it is tapered or wider at on end and it looks like it was assembled wrong by me when putting it back in as it was bound on the firing pin or rotated around the head of the firing pin. Probably when I was trying to rotate the pin for reassembly and never caught it.
 
Come to think of it now, I don't seem to recall having a spring with my firing pin. I think mine is free float. But I could be wrong, I'll check tonight.

Slam fire should be a non-issue, it can't go bang until the bolt locks. However, if you blow your face off I take no responsibility.

Also, I'm a Froglube dealer, and I should tell you there's no such thing as a "liberal amount". The surfaces of your firearm should be super slick, but dry. Most people are so used to oiling the crap out of things, that's not how Froglube is designed to work. I also own a Tavor, and I can tell you that less is more in that gun as well.
 
For the frog lube I coated all the parts where lubrication would be needed than placed them all in the oven to warm 150*f until they cooled then proceeded to wipe off all excess lube until dry.

I prefer a dry rifle, from working in dry dusty areas.

The lube had nothing to do with this failure, more than likely my mistake in reassembly.
 
Called North Sylva to order $13 each but they are currently 60 days out but they did confirm you can run without it.

After review of other photos online my spring looks like it was deformed when I took it apart I just thought it was larger on one end.

Buddy of mine is a frog lube fan and on a usual range trip, 2 out of 3 of his guns have light primer strikes...just saying :)
 
This is not an issue with the lube it was an issue with the spring being caught between the bolt and firing pin. I picked up some new snap caps and without the spring all had a solid dent from the firing pin.

I think after looking at photos online that my spring may have been an issue since new but only after the last assembly did it create a loss of operation.
