I see there a these Ruger scout rifles that are called "U.S." so whats the difference between the normal run of the mill scout rifle and the "U.S." scout rifle? i noticed that one is blued and ones not...is there anything else?

US has 16" barrel and is threaded for, and comes with a flashider. "Export" model has 18" unthreaded barrel. Interesting enough, i saw a US model at a local retailer last week, which was a tad odd.

The export restriction was lifted.... I just bought one and it has the flash hider on it.... I'd imagine they will shortly be down to just one model for production purposes...

The US market appears to have access too all possible models - 16.5" w/flash hider, 18" w/out flash hider, 18" w/ flash hider.
I have yet to see a flash hider model in Canada, though I know they are now available. I'd be interested to see how well they work since mine has quite the bark and flare when firing cheap russian ammo.

If I was in the market for one, I would buy the export model because I would value stainless steel over a flash hider.

You can have both.... And a wood stock to boot....

I'd take 18" over 16" any day (and I don't lean that way); the .308 round has tremendous potential for accuracy. I reckon the shorter (handier, more lethal looking, sniper hide with flash arrestor) variants are more likely to be less accurate over distance - and why would anyone opt for less accuracy, if given the choice? And yes, I have an 18" model in stainless that is on par with my most accurate rifle. I'm impressed as hell with it. My only complaint is that I had to invest 6+ hours in polishing the action to get it smooth enough to shoot - no thanks to Gun Nutz, who did not respond, even once, to my request for insight into dealing with an atrociously (yes, I said "atrociously") sticky action. Now, at least, if I had to insist someone, "Get off my lawn", I know I could actually get the second round into the chamber without embarrassing myself.

Agreed... but for hunting purposes, scout rifles are not designed to reach out at distances.... the are meant for patrolling, and for opportunity. ..

ohh k gotcha. thanks!

Thats not all. The US version has the gunsite logo on the underside. At least the US version ive seen on youtube do. Both Scout rifles i had before the export ban was lifted, did not have the flash hider or the logo.

The newer models that I have seen have had that stock embellishing on them. Mine doesn't, but my brother's does because his was supposed to be one of the first lefties brought into the country.

Sorry to hear of your feeding issue, I had that exact same problem among others with two 375 Rugers and after trying to fix the problem ended up virtually giving the rifles away

I've got a lefty 18", and it has the logo on bottom of the grip. I much prefer the longer length: the extra 50 feet per second or so is always good, and a little less flash because more powder burns in the barrel. If it came in 20", that would have been my choice but 18" is just fine too.

In May mine came as a standard US model 6822 with the 18 inch stainless with flash hider and Gunsite logo on stock and Ruger Gunsite Scout engraved on receiver.
Clayton at Prophet River told me that Ruger are now shipping the American versions to Canada now.

....that's interesting. I've heard of (and seen on YouTube) Ruger scout actions sticking. I've got a lefty model and it's quite smooth. I can crank those rounds rather rapidly ..... And I'm a newbie with bolts! Guess I lucked out!
