Powder at the new Barrie, Ont Cabelas

You can choose to shop where ever you want, for what ever reason you choose.... That's your choice.

It just seems pretty odd that with the current issues around getting any powder from anybody, you'd be happy that someone has any powder to sell you.

I think you mistake my surprise over the recording of information with an intended boycott of Cabela's over powder sales requirements. As always, I will keep buying whatever powder I need/want from whomever has it. If I have the option of getting it cheaper at place A as opposed to B, then I will buy from A. I look at it the same way I look at guns: even if they make me run around a field in my gitch, carrying a banner proclaiming my love of The Golden Girls while barking at the moon, I will continue to have and buy guns.

You guys dont actually fill out the forms with your real information do you? I just throw down some bogus names and address, the dude begind the counter dont care, as long as there is ink on the paper, he did his job.

When I was at cabelas they made me take my pal out and my dl to verify the info provided.

So, anyone get to the Barrie store and buy powder? A buddy took the day off work yesterday and went in. He came out with about 15lbs of powder, including an 8lb keg of Varget. I asked about Reloder powders, but he said he didn't notice any, but then, he was on the lookout for Hodgdon stuff like Varget, and not RL-15.

Too bad that's actually the law....

actually no.. the law only requires you to record the buyers name and address (and as well as the powder info). it does not requires a drivers license, nor a PAL to be presented nor recorded..

anything above that is either the CFO mandating above what the law requires, or the store policy which requires it.. but it's not the LAW (as per section 195 which you identified!)

it's acceptable by law to say "please tell me your address so I can record it, on the ledger".. there is no requirement to present any ID (drivers license, or PAL) to have to verify it on the spot.

Le Baron is my place for Powder, Primer and factory loaded ammo. BassPro for the price match policy. Al Flahertys is also good, so as Rouge River Arms. I wonder if Cabelas-Barrie has a price-match policy? Elwood Epps is also an option if you are driving farther north of Toronto. Otherwise, drive East to Williams Arms.

It's funny I've found LeBaron in Ottawa short of everything for loading and they don't seem to share between stores

LeBaron Markham too. Always "out of stock currently, call back later"

My buddy was at the Cabelas opening day, said he could only find powders that were good for rifle, not for our pistol loading.

I got 3 lbs of Hogdon TG few weeks back. What I did was ask the counter person to put my name and what I need. Few follow-ups later, a shipment came in with my powder. They are very reliable when it comes to reservations. AFAIK, they follow the order of reservation. They will call you at least twice before you forfeit your spot. When they first got hold of Ruger TD, reservation was 2 ledger pages and strictly by order sequence. Best pricing for powder, primer and bullets. You just a have to be patient as with other stores.

So yesterday I called LeBaron, they had 7lbs of powder in stock! I told him I'll take 4 and that I'd be there in 15 mins. Only to find that when I got there, he sold 5 of 7 to a guy in the store, despite me having my name on 4 of them.

I was thoroughly pissed. Great business model.

had this happen to me as well.. ordered a "Special order, limited time" Remington 700 in 300 ultramag (rocky mountain edition), they called said it was in.. when I got there I found out that it went through the Montreal store, and they sold it there.. by the time I found out, you couldn't order it any more.. pissed!! never bought anything from them again.
