Canadian Rangers Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifles

How many soldiers in the section are armed with a C7A2, which does mount a bayonet? Also, does anyone know where I could buy the Eickhorn bayonet to match the new Diemaco civilian semi-auto C7?

Bayonets are not on the scale of issue for Canadian Rangers.
Very little is actually on the scale of issue for Canadian Rangers.
For example - Rangers supply about 85% of their own field kit and to be honest I prefer it that way.
Pants, Hoodie, Boots, (ammo & IMP's when needed) and a rifle is frequently all that gets issued.
Patrols do episodically get issued Patrol kit but much equipment is acquired through hard work, ingenuity and inventiveness by Patrol members.
Some groups & patrols fair better off than others and it can be pretty inconsistent.
C'est la vie. We just roll with it and do the best we can with what we have - and we usually do pretty well for ouselves.

It says right in our mission statement "Lightly equipped and mobile force"
To be honest we don't need much equipment to achieve our mission and purpose.
Having said all of that it can be difficult for some people to gain the fieldcraft and bushcraft skills (it takes time to learn this stuff).
We rely on heavily on solid proficiencies due to the absence of equipment. I grew up in the bush so I took to it pretty quick.

This is what makes Rangers fun and cool in my opinion.
Not everyone is cut out for it.
Those who can't stand the bugs, rain, snow, mud and grizzly bears should probably stay in their Recreational Vehicles.

I can forsee Colt coming up with some design that will cost us like $2000 each...or more.

Why aren't we buying an off the shelf rifle for $500 or so apiece?

Colt has a design unveiled. It's the M2012 Bolt Action Rifle. 4 or 5 grades from basic government dependent to gucci hero-sniper

i sent some spare enfield parts up to some rangers through my buddy .....extractors iirc ...they sent me one of their Ranger hoodies ....love it!!

Had to laugh a few years ago when the "gubmint" decided the rangers needed a new rifle and sold off the No4's, then had to BUY THEM BACK FROM THE SURPLUS DEALERS.
I have two of the "substitutes" the government tried to inflict on the rangers that couldn't stand up to the uses the rangers put them to and were sold off.;)

For the same reasons that ANY gov't issued item costs more than the equivalent from CanTire - it has to go through gov't tests in a competition with unreasonable standards and meet specs set by people who won't use the item.
Gov't acquisition process 101 .....

News from the high Arctic these days is the locals have little use for .303's. They're more into flat shooting, high velocity, long range rifles.

That's what I heard anyway.

I've also heard that many of the Rangers don't use their issued rifles much, many have their own rifles in different calibres that they prefer.

I still have my hoodie and issue T shirt. Those hoodies are warm. I use mine all the time for winter work and as under clothing when whitetail hunting.

CTV news has a trailing thread at the bottom of their news channel saying the Rangers are being issued New in original box 1947 dated Lee Enfield rifles. Supposedly this was reported to PM Harper on Friday.

They are observers and scouts and would help the canadian forces in survival and how to track. They would also be radio operators. I am pretty sure the Russians would not be able to understand them on the radio. They are to valuable for combat. They need a rifle to kill a polar bear or to signal if the radios are broke. I do think the rangers should be paid more and more recognized for their importance then a ##### fest on which rifle they should carry. I am pretty sure they have better rifles for hunting that they own. The LE is just an issued rifle it probably stays on the snowmobile and only brought out when a politician stops by for a photo shoot.

i talked to a ranger at the stampede who said they got 200 new in wrap rifles from the irish contract set, and that a couple of guys in his unit each got one a while back
