Bayonets are not on the scale of issue for Canadian Rangers.
Very little is actually on the scale of issue for Canadian Rangers.
For example - Rangers supply about 85% of their own field kit and to be honest I prefer it that way.
Pants, Hoodie, Boots, (ammo & IMP's when needed) and a rifle is frequently all that gets issued.
Patrols do episodically get issued Patrol kit but much equipment is acquired through hard work, ingenuity and inventiveness by Patrol members.
Some groups & patrols fair better off than others and it can be pretty inconsistent.
C'est la vie. We just roll with it and do the best we can with what we have - and we usually do pretty well for ouselves.
It says right in our mission statement "Lightly equipped and mobile force"
To be honest we don't need much equipment to achieve our mission and purpose.
Having said all of that it can be difficult for some people to gain the fieldcraft and bushcraft skills (it takes time to learn this stuff).
We rely on heavily on solid proficiencies due to the absence of equipment. I grew up in the bush so I took to it pretty quick.
This is what makes Rangers fun and cool in my opinion.
Not everyone is cut out for it.
Those who can't stand the bugs, rain, snow, mud and grizzly bears should probably stay in their Recreational Vehicles.
