What's With the Super Short 10/22 Barrels?

I didn't like my short barrel guns because they were too light for a steady offhand hold, and too loud to shoot without ear protection. Accuracy is irrelevant, and equal in long or short guns.

I think it all boils down to personal preference. I can completely understand the benefits of short barrels, they do handle more quickly, point faster, are easy to pack etc... I personally don't think they look cool, but again it's a personal thing.

Myself, I like long barrels. My current favorite plinker is a mossberg 146-b with a 26" barrel. It is heavy, scary accurate, and steady as a rock shooting offhand out to 100m. And super quiet. And, most of all... I think that looong barrel looks super bada$$.

Short doesn't necessarily mean light... I agree that a gun that is too light is difficult to hold steady when shooting freehand... I am not a fan of light guns... so my shorties are with bull barrels and laminate stocks... they handle like a shorty but hold steady like a bench gun... with a shorter fulcrum of course.

My preference is for the short barrel, my current 10/22 has a 9" barrel. Seems to be accurate enough though I have it set up with a reflex sight so its hard to do a real grouping test with a 5 MOA red dot. The short barrel is noisy though, need earplugs but thats just good habit to get into.

I do get a kick out of using an old Savage 3B that my uncle passed down. The 26" barrel and the long sight radius make is surprisingly accurate, if you have good eyes to keep the razor thin blade front sight in focus. With sub sonic rounds its pleasant to use without ear plugs.

I use a Ruger 10" Charger barrel on my 1022 build and have no issues making 100 yard gopher hits it is louder but way lighter and more handy won't be going back anytime soon.
