Colt Canada C8 versus Everybody Else!

Colt Canada's web site states that the Diemaco SA20 has a heavy barrel.
Is this the case ?

I don't see where it says that that on their site. The SA20 has a government profile barrel. 0.63 inches to the gas block and 0.73 in front. At least according to my calipers.

I would guess the SA15.7 has a heavy barrel since the overall weight listed is greater than the SA20.

made up my mind i bought a 6920 from irunguns. with exchange came to 1179 canadian... pretty much the best price I've ever seen for that rifle.
if i'm not happy with it, well ill get a diemaco if they are still available.

You certainly wont go wrong. Its still a Colt !
I bought my 6920 SOCOM from IRG last year when Colt prices were as high as Diemaco prices today.
I hope to see a drop in Diemaco prices down the road.
Enjoy !

I always love this "best rifle" talk. The best for what?

If you are jumping up and down on it, throwing it against trees and shooting it until the barrel glows, yes pay the money and get a Colt. If you are just going to go shoot at the range buy yourself a decent AR (tons of options out there) and enjoy. Most all AR's are accurate and will run fine if looked after. No need to worry about which one is best.

Now are you saying an American Colt (=Decent) can take abuse as well as a Canadian Colt (=Awesome), cause I beg to differ.:stirthepot2:

haha, oh god:p I used to own an American Colt and I've seen C8's and 7's get thrown around, they were fine. I would prefer the Canadian product though.

Bolivar - Are the 62s the LC green tipped NATO ball? A minute and a half off the magazine with ball is excellent. It shoots like that through the Armalite barrel on my competition rifle. I suspect that loads assembled with 69gr Sierras will do better for you. Fired from a serious rest, rather than off the magazine, your rifle should shoot close to MOA.
When the C8s were made for the OPP contract, their standard of accuracy when tested was outstanding.

I'm getting 1.5 inches @ 100 for 5 shots prone resting in the mag with 62 gn. Gonna try to work up a load with 69 gn SMK over Varget. Hopefully will get out next week with it to punch some groups.

Thats some sweet shooting Bolivar, now is that with the standard sights or have you mounted a scope to manage those groups? Would you be so kind as to let us know what sight/optics you're using (sorry if I missed this earlier) and thanks for the report.
It's nice to be getting some actual reports on accuracy now that the Canadian Colts are finally available to us civvies. Great to know that the accuracy of these rifles is on par with what I remember their durability to be, that being excellent.

Congrats on your new purchase, that's a smoking deal on one fine looking AR. It would be great if you could offer up an accuracy report MiketheBike as I'd love to know how well your Colt groups and what you think of it after some rounds downrange. Enjoy getting her Zeroed-In...;)

Zeroed-In - I shoot with an Elcan OS3.0B.

To all:

Yes, I know the BUIS is mounted backwards. I did it that way to get the longest possible sight radius...and yes, I have to take the scope off to use the BUIS. That is the purpose of the "Back Up" iron sight. If my scope goes for a crap, I have backup sighting system. If that happens, having the scope still mounted to the rifle will not be an advantage so off it will come.

Honestly, I only have the BUIS mounted because it came with the rifle. I do not expect to ever HAVE to use it.
