Took my Colt Canada/Diemaco C8 to the range today PICS ADDED PLUS VIDEO

COLT CANADA C8 CARBINE, SOME MINOR OBSERVATIONS. Picked up my Colt Canada carbine this past week from CSC in Calgary. Did some comparisons to what I used in the forces and also reference in Black Rifle 2. Noticed the rear BUIS was indeed mounted backwards with the Colt logo facing the muzzle, I assume this is done so one can use the smaller aperture for more precise shooting as the sight does not lay flat with the larger aperture folded down the idea been to leave the small aperture up. Second point is that the bolt carrier is not an M-16 carrier it is a tad shorter on the bottom end, longer than an AR-15 but shorter than the M-16, compared it to an original Diemaco carrier I have. The bolt carrier is marked CC not with a Devteck "D", bolt is MPD marked. Barrel is the correct configuration as seen on the C8FTHB, it is marked CC with a batch number similar to Diemaco with MP, no Devteck "D". Upper receiver has "CC" and a batch or casting number on the right rear rather than the stylized "D" and Wilson forge marks, it has the Cerro Forge key. Lower has the Cerro Forge making by the right side of pistol grip. Maple leaf is much smaller than the CF one, this may be their export or factory size non CF roll mark also no bilingual Fabrique au Canada under the Made in Canada. Just some minor observation though. Beautiful rifle, nicely finished, I love it, just a few differences that come to notice. Hitting the range this weekend, should shoot like a lazer given previus Diemaco experience.

So with all that in play for collectors this is no diemaco C8.
You can buy a US made Colt with more diemaco marked parts on it... oww for $1000 less
very sad, glad I did not buy one.

BCM has a pretty authentic looking triad mount, if you really want one that looks like the CF issued version.

And where would one find one of these available to purchase? I had a Diemaco one kicking around that I put on the SA15.7, but I need one for the SA20. I got my you know what slapped for posting a WTB in the EE!

That BCM TRIAD is a MUCH closer match to the CF TRIAD that the Cadex one.

And are you serious?! These don't come with an "M16" / F/A bolt carrier?! Like a semi-auto bolt carrier? Someone please confirm or deny this for me...

When I shot in an indoor pistol range regularly I used plugs and muffs just to put more protection on top of my ear canal but I was just wondering about your comment. How would muffs stop sound that is coming in through the bones?

The bones around the ear conduct sound very efficiently. The idea of the muffs is to protect the entire hearing system. Range Officers on indoor ranges have had serious hearing loss in shorter order by just wearing plugs. They are not enough, especially indoors.

COLT CANADA BOLT CARRIER GROUP. Sorry but the CC C8 carbine I have does not have the M-16 bolt group. If you compare a real Diemaco C7/C8 bolt group the lower engagement portion is shorter on the civie carbine it is not even with the top portion. The lower bolt carrier engagement surface is rebated back, it appears to look like an M-16 FA carrier but it is definitely shorter just, an AR-15 carrier made to look like an F/A. So a minus for CC and yes you get a full auto bolt carrier group with the Colt USA ones, my 6920 and 6940 both have factory installed M-16 carriers. I compared my CC with the US ones and my Diemaco F/A one. Still a nice rifle but some extra short coming's to disappoint for that extra $1000.00.

Looking at Bolivar's photos the BC seems to be a hybrid with the firing pin shroud and an intermediate length lower engagement portion.

Why would they do this? I thought the idea of neutered BCs was over and done with.

Just my $.02, I had a chance to see both the C7 & C8 first hand. Fit & finish is excellent, the C8 reminded me of my CF days. Without arguing the semantics of price etc, IMO if you want a Cdn AR the C7 or C8 is worth the coin. If you want a AR and just want to "plink" you probably want a Norc or NEA?. I am however a "buy once, cry once" kinda guy. Cheers

Thanks, Guys. That's pretty disappointing about the BCG. I bought both LMT and Daniel Defense F/A BCGs to replace my semi-auto BCGs along with heavier buffers. Maybe Colt Canada thought we'd never notice... I'm happy these are on the market (finally...) but I expected more.

Still an awesome rifle especially if you want an icon from your CF days, more appealing to collectors I would think than plinkers, not a deal in any way but some of us were willing to bend over and take it were it hurts just to have one. By the time you built your clone you would have been into it for close to $2000.00 with a custom engraved lower, buying every little Diemaco part that showed up on the EE over the years to make it look like an accurate representation. This is the better route to go than a Franken build clone.

it will never be a perfect C8 ....its about the best your going to do unless you join the forces ....im very pleased with mine and will enjoy shooting my canadian made rifle ..nuff said

This is a great point on the price, but I think the estimate is low... If you built a very close copy (very close), you'd be in for well over $2000.

Unboxing my "C8" was bittersweet, noticing all of the stuff that was "wrong", but still thrilled with what I had in my hands... The upper receiver was the biggest let-down, with that stupid BCG, and incorrect markings... I think they could have done better.

Interesting little gem: Look inside the grip and you might just find a cute little Devtek hiding in there.

That SA20 bolt looks exactly like the C7 BCG I have in my hand right now. Minus the markings. Taking pictures.

Look carefully at the length of the rear engagement portion... It's shorter on this pictured carrier. The C7/C8 carrier will be flush with the top side, so it will be able to trip the auto sear in a select fire lower.

Oh now I see it!

Bolivar's picture is shadowy there and I mistook the rear engagement portion for the tablematt. Now I notice the reflection of the metal. Semi auto BCG's that I have seen previously had a lot more material shaved off the tail than the CC one pictured above. Funny they should do this.

So what is it then? A ####ing hybrid FA looking that will not work FA? Bolivar you need to test it. Come see me at CFSAC and we will try it in my C7.

Hummm...
