Society of Misguided Adventurers

Hey you guys aren't doing very well at keeping SoMA current.................WTF..........

And by the way I just heard today that I got my Sask WT draw..............I'm going deer hunting in Nov...:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana: Hey do you guys think a 223 is big enough for a Sask whitetail ? OR Hey do you guys think a 300 Wby is overkill for Sask whitetail ? Decisions, decisions decisions............what rifle and caliber do I take............anything but a 270.......:p:p:p......... I know, I have a new to me 700 Classic, 7mm Wby, should be just the ticket. Wait, I haven't killed anything with my 7 RUM either, or my 7-08, or my 6.5X55, or my 7X64, or............well you get the picture...........

The 223 isn't legal, but if you'd get off your hump and get a 234 Whatchamacallit up and running you'd be invincible in Saskatchewan! What zone will you be hunting in? My folks live in the middle of 21/22. But if you can't get the 234 ready then take the 7Wby. Very nicely balanced for that kind of hunting while still being exotic enough so as to not preclude membership in SOMA.

BUM..........I was being facetious, I will most likely be using my 340 or 375 Wby, I'm hoping that's enough to stop a wounded charging WT buck, I've read they can be tougher than grizzlies, pound for pound. I think I'll be taking my .470 double for pushing bush, one can jump them at very close range and depending on what he decides to do, one could be in grave danger if unable to drop him in his tracks.........talk about a misguided adventure!!!!!

Due to previous experiences there I don't dare show up with a 234 though, it's a long unpleasant story, over which I made some enemies.............let's just say I don't dare go there.......

My SOMA membership was absolutely the foremost concern in my potential selection of a cartridge for this hunt............it must be appropriate and yet classy enough, without going over board in power or too small so as to not be decisive. It's a fine balance belonging to this SOMA club. I'm glad the 7mm Wby has been approved, I thought it might be fun to "blood" the 7-08 in the 700 MS, with lots of pictures, Dorian Gray will be squirting all over the country side. Another option would be my super lightweight 700 Ti in 300 WSM using 150gn TTSX, it's just so pleasant to move around and carry and a 150 gn 30 cal bullet should be about perfect for deer. Then there's Bob and Swede both good candidates as well..............25-06 I just picked up..............257 Bee always a perfect selection as is the 264 WM...........Maybe I'll just pick up a 270 Win and be done with it........
So many calibers and so few deer !!!!

Well, since there is life in this again, let me offer my services as an associate member... I can write TAFs and GFAs for all the pilot members, and since I've travelled much of the world for work I've got a few stories about random far away places. As it happens my second most memorable bowel movement occurred on the border of Maiwand district and the Registan desert.

I'm off to the Land-Down-Under tomorrow, for 14 days of shooting and general may-ham and about 5 more for the logistics of moving around in the country. Add a few more to get there and back.

Wish me luck, or barring that, just don't too cheer enthusiastically for the buffalo.;) I've got 550 rounds of .458 and nearly 1000 30-06s all arranged for the "gopher" shoot. Hopefully its a SOMA worthy misadventure with just the right blend of adventure and disaster.

That sounds like a proper shooting trip- like an upland wing shoot, just a lot bigger! Look forward to hearing your findings on big vs smaller. The first SOMA scientific expedition.

I've done the medium versus bigger, and am now working heavy versus standard, and fragmentary by design versus high weight retention, and monos driven past the norm. SOMA members will of course be presented with the results for peer review.

Well I would certainly hope so, otherwise what good is it having a group of peers?

Hey, it was your idea to hot-wire a dragline.

Well see how it turns out before I decide if I'm bragging or complaining. So far I got here in one piece, all my shootin' stuff is here and I've managed to reach my local contact and the outfitter. That's already a good start. Were going to go out shooting trap tomorrow, and thrown some 458 lead around. Darwin has a fantastic range and my friend is part of the furniture there. Somewhere along the line I'll start assembling my ammo.

After the 9th I'll drop off the radar
