Ruger 10/22 or Browning Buckmark rifle?

I own both.
Each one is a great rifles for different reasons.
The Browning Buckmark is rear charging, light & easy to carry, accurate out of the box and looks good.
The Ruger 10/22 is a versatile rifle that has hundreds of different options for making it what you want it to be. (and then some)

Buy both and have no regrets.

I have both also. Like Wham-O states, both are great. I have no plans to sell either one. Hard to compare them as apples to apples due to the price difference. The Buckmarks are hard to find. If you see one buy it. I prefer the BM in regular barrel with sights versus the heavy barrel version. You may have to buy a 10/22 to keep you shooting while searching for a Buckmark.

I also got the the MacFadden Ultimate clip loader for the Buckmark and highly recommend them. The big version is great for the range, and the pocket one is great for the field walking days. Both save your thumbs and make reloading so easy. I don't let my kids use the clip loaders anymore as they just chew through the 22lr ammo like a Gatling gun.

Everyone that has come out with me likes the lightweight and carbine like feel of the BM. It does have a nice balance to it and shoulders nicely with it's unique design.
I would buy the Buckmark again.

The Buckmark needs nothing to be cool, sweet little carbine, very accurate. My only Ruger was bought for a Tommy gun project. If you can find a BM to fondle you may well be sold on one although with decent glass it will run into a G note.

Love my Buckmark rifle. It's just a gussied-up non-restricted long barrel pistol.
Don't have a Ruger yet, and probably won't bother either.

thanks for the replies.

I saw a Buckmark rifle at Reliable Gun. I like the fiber optic sights on it and the compact feel of it. that's the only one I ever seen at a gun shop. it was sold within a day I think

cool looking carbine. I have a 10/22 but it's getting repaired in Quebec.....by the sounds of it I won't get it back till summer is over

I like the slide lock back feature after last round on the Buckmark rifle that the 10/22 doesn't have, and the magazine release button, better sights, shorter and lighter

I like the 25 round mags you can get for the 10/22 (although mine had problems) , I like the takedown feature of the 10/22 takedown

I like all the aftermarket parts you can get for the 10/22 to make it cool.....the Buckmark rifle is cool as it comes out of the box

I like the fact you can buy two 10/22's for the price of one Buckmark rifle......but given the choice, I think I would prefer the Buckmark rifle. it seems like the more reliable of the two

I realy like my buckmark and don't think that I would sell it but there are some down falls one is that it is a open action on both sides and it tends to "spit" at you glasses are a must when using it and this also makes it louder than most other 22lr for the shooter that is and the last is that there are no high cap mags for it. Besides that great rifle that I never get tired of.

I have numerous of both... to make a fair comparison, you would have to drop the extra $300-400 that the Buckmark costs into modification to a stock Ruger 10/22, ie. aftermarket barrel and trigger... if you are prepared to do that then go with the 10/22, if you aren't prepared to do that and don't mind the extra upfront cost of the Buckmark, then go with the Buckmark.

I own Brownings but not the Buckmark .22. I own several Ruger 1022's and absolutely love them. Straight out of the box they are tack drivers and rival high end bolt action .22s for accuracy. If you like to upgrade and play around, the Ruger 1022 platform is cheap and versatile. I own a fluted SS bull barrelled target model with a 10x milldot scope that you can connect the dots at 100 yards. For a hunting weapon, they carry nice and will eat anything for ammo without problem. I highly recommend one.

If you like to upgrade and play around, the Ruger 1022 platform is cheap and versatile. One truth! I own a fluted SS bull barrelled target model with a 10x milldot scope that you can connect the dots at 100 yards. For a hunting weapon, you hire a gun bearer and will eat mostly just dedicated target ammo without problem. I highly recommend one. Not Me. A 22 that weighs as much as a Garand and desires expensive target ammo for reliability is a very poor walking around all day in cattle pastures gopher rifle.
Corrected!
All due respect but that level of accuracy is not my personal experience. For decades my one and only 22 LR semi-auto was an older Winchester Model 490 built in Coborg Ontario.
Only more frequent cleaning requirements in the Saskatchewan gopher fields pushed me towards eventually breaking down and purchasing the Ruger 10-22.
Once I did so, I was just a little bit disappointed in the small but noticeable drop in the accuracy department. I found I could live with it, but a higher round count per hits with the Ruger factory barrel is a given IMHO. I believe you that the Ruger Target model is more accurate then the standard model. But that's why one pays more for it correct?
It also weighs about as much as a big chunk of railway track and is not Stinger/CCI Presegmented friendly. lol!

My own observation only.
