Ruger Mk II question

Well I think I will snag a SS Hawkeye. The decision may be a simple as choosing the chambering. One is .270 Win and the other is .280 Rem. - seriously. :)

Grab the 280, they dropped it from the list a couple years ago so they will be harder to find and everyone has a 270! The mk2 is a good solid dependable hunting rifle, and would get another, had a hawkeye for a month thought the finish would mark up easy but like above the triggers should be a bit better.

I bought three of the earliest stainless/canoe-paddle models when they came out (early 90's, I think?...they were of the very first batch of MkII's that were still push-feed) and have kept two of them, in .300 and .338WinMag. They both have new triggers and stocks, and both can be made to shoot 1MOA with little effort. The .300 has been sighted-in with the same handload for at least 15 years now and has never shifted its POI. Very confidence-inspiring to pick up a gun that hasn't been shot in months and put 3 shots exactly where you want them. The 338 in particular shoots almost any handload or factory load well. It has been shortened and equipped with iron sights to create my own "Ruger Alaskan Brush Hunter" (apologies to Savage), and has held its POI equally well. When it was moved into its current stock a decade or more ago, the POI stayed where it had always been. Then, when the barrel was cut and the sights added only a year or two ago, I was happy to see that the POI was STILL in the same spot! Just dumb luck, I know, but it made me smile nevertheless.

Oddly, the third one was a .243 that never really shot all that well, despite a fair bit of time and effort trying to dial it in. Sold it without regret after a few years, to a guy who was happy with 2.5-inch groups.

My Mk II .338 WM shoots like a varmint rifle. The Mk II triggers are nice once they have been worked properly. No need to replace them.

I'm thinking of getting a .243 Win again and am considering a Hawkeye.

Yep, My hawkeye mkII .35 is a Hard core hunting Rifle for all conditions!
love the safety system!
heavy trigger LC6 but could be worked no doubt.

I've only got one, an M77 RSM in 416 Rigby and it's extremely well built and quite accurate. I made a 287 meter shot on a springbok in RSA with it. Not a huge target but no trick. It's an example of one but I have a ton of confidence in the rifle.
