The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

Nice Rifles, I have been on many long hikes through thick brush and the scout is the perfect companion. It is easy to manuvour and capable of handling any game. I wish they would make a spitting image/little brother in 7.62x39 with removable mag A set of Ruger rings that allow the shooter to use the iron sights and a mounted scope at the same time would be the icing on thd cake. Maybe a factory ruger ring with a hole in the centre to allow the use of iron sights.

I just bought this gun and absolutely love it, feels great, and accurate as hell out of the box with iron sights. I've only seen one somewhat negative review (nutnfancy) complaining about the gun not being accurate and the bolt being fussy but I did not encounter ANY of those issues whatsoever. My wallet is pretty ####ed now but I'm quite happy with my purchase and I'll probably keep this rifle forever, my first 308!!!

I am seriously considering buying this rifle to use for moose and retire my old 303. All I can see from this thread is a lot of positive comments about this rifle.

Given how thick the brush appeared to be in Newfoundland when I was there last month, I'd say the GSR is ideal for those conditions!

Mine just arrived, 16.5" barrel, flash hider, wlanut stock special edition....

The action is as solid as can be an dfit and finish is phenomenal.... which I exoected, having previous experience with the M77..... The rifle swing and points like a dream and the 3 round mag I picked up for it is a huge plus for a hunting application... Can't wait to add the XS rail and an optice and get some shooting results....

Where did you get your 3 round mag? I'm about to purchase a 3 and 5 round poly mag for mine from Brownells as they are the cheapest I've seen so far, and they have them in stock, just wondering if there is a domestic source that has them at a reasonable price?

I wasn't convinced about the walnut stock on a GSR when I first saw the picture by Prophet River, but man that's a nice looking gun!

I just noticed this site and had to have a look. I only read through about a dozen pages and though everyone seems to like the beast I didn't see any pics of targets. A long time ago Ruger rifles had a bad, perhaps undeserved, rep for poor accuracy and I'd like to see what these are capable of. I know it's not a target rifle and don't expect the "mine does them in the same hole at 200 all the time" nonsense. For a hunting rifle I'd be more than happy with 1 1/2" 5 shot groups @ 100. Anybody with one of these care to post some target pics? Thanks

As soon as I get mine shooting I will post some up.... I did shoot a buddy's with some 150 and 180 gr..... the 150 was about 1.5 - 2" at 100 yard an dthe 180's slightly better at around the MOA mark...... give or take..... It definitely preferred the heavier loads....

I read on the ruger forum that they seem to really like bullets in the 170 range....

For me, this rifle is a walk and stalk purchase that will never see a shot over 100 yards. More used for close range etc..... FWIW, I have other Ruger m77 based guns that do MOA easily....
