1911 in a caliber other than .45ACP?

It came down to shoot 300/400 rounds a week of 9 and/or 40, or 150/180 rounds a week with 45ACP.
I rather shoot something of less power and have appropriate training time. But hey, some here shoot thiusands of 45 per week or so it seems, your budgets your choices.
I have 2 STIs, one in 9mm and one in 40SW, i have no regrets whatsoever!

Edit : BcRider, i load 200gr bullets in 40SW casings, to make power factor its still snappy, nothing like a 45

Shooting is dam cheap if i compare to a certain part of my life when i was partying alot and another thing, everything that fall in the sand or the mud, i would not reload in my Dillon, when i get them from the table, i keep them for future reloads... JP.

Don't you clean your cases before reloading?

Your doing something wrong then. I use lee dies (cheapest you can get) on my dillon, I decap and resize before cleaning, and use range brass. I've yet to ruin a die or my press, and I reload 1000 9mm and 1000 .45 every 2 weeks.
 
Reloading for pistol rounds except 357/38/44 will be a new adventure for me, enough stay on the table for a start, i am leaving for the range and i have in excess of 800 rounds in my bag, maybe one third will make it back here... JP.
 
For me the 1911 is in my cabinet because it is a classic. For me, part of it being a classic is that it is a .45 ACP. I understand your reasoning for not wanting to have another calibre to deal with, but for me the appeal would be lost if it wasn't a .45 ACP.

If it's just for casual shooting/plinking I'd go .45 ACP. A few more boxes of ammo shouldn't be an issue.

9mm and .40 S&W 1911 are less common (particularly the .40) than a 1911 in .45 ACP. No point in limiting your pistol purchase options if you usage is casual target shooting/plinking/day-at-the-range.

To tell the truth going with a 9mm makes some sense but my heart says .45...... Not sure how soon it will be though. I've got my eye on a 9mm friend for my .40 BHP right now.;)
 
I'd have to look more into these .357 mag 1911s from coonan, just looking at the picture they do not look like a true 1911.
The trigger has a gap in the rear, which might indicate that the trigger is pivoting instead of sliding, like i said i did not research them i might be wrong.
Sliding trigger has got to be one of the best features of a 1911/2011

Edit, just downloaded coonans 1911 manual, seems like a true 1911 trigger.
 
I have the 1911 in 22, 45 and 9mm. I like the ergos. If I could only have one it would the the STI 9mm but I say that as someone whose first 1911 centre fire was a 45 ACP. I use the 45 as a treat. The 9mm is a regular shooter and I really enjoy it.
 
I am old fashioned and I think a 1911 is really a 1911 when in .45 acp.
Also .45 acp is such a great caliber to shoot.
