So I had a Norinco CQ-A for the longest time and shot the hell out of it. Great value for what you pay for, but I finally decided to take the plunge and buy a well made rifle that would be my dream gun. I wanted something I could use to plink at the range, but also something I could depend on if I decided to do a carbine courses and run it hard. After a lot of research it was either a Daniel Defense or a BCM, and from my research I found that you really couldn't go wrong with either choice. I knew I wanted a 14.5'' barrel over a 16" so the M4A1 won out over the DDM4v5. The carbine gas system does recoil harder than the mid length, but negligible and I feel more comfortable with a carbine gas system with the 14.5 for reliability reasons. The 14.5 inch barrel does have a pinned and welded Daniel Defense flash hider but I had no intention in changing it. The RIS II rail is really light for the size of the rail. Most people are moving towards the slimline hand gaurds, but myself, I still prefer the look of the full rails and weight is not a huge issue for me. The Cerakote finish is a dark brown color. It is different for sure, but I fell in love with it at first sight. I replaced the charging handle with a BCM gunfigther mod4 because they are the bomb. The Vortex is temporary, I do plan on either a 1x4 optic or an aim point, and a surefire scout M600 is on the wishlist. Wolverine Supplies was awesome to deal with, and I even got a 5% discount for being military. Enough talking... here are the pictures:

The new furniture is really comfortable.

Nice rifle! If you ever get bored of shooting it yourself I'd love to see how it feels. We shoot at the same range.

Is the RIS2 rail all that over the other quad rail offerings out there?

If you're interested in shooting it I would be happy to meet up with you some day. The RIS 2 is basically the strongest rail they make. It is the same rail used in the SOPMOD 2 program by US SOCOM. The other Daniel Defense rails are all so good so which ever one you get you aren't going to be disappointed.

I like daniel but after alot of rounds check for upper and lower woble, also the 1 in 7 twist sucks for 55 gr ammo and i cant be buying 75 grain stuff on my budget and round count. Id like to c daniel drop the mil spec barrel meant for heavier bullets like tracer rounds and adopt a 1 in 8 or 1 in 9 heavy barrel for medium to long range accuracy.

Im glad you bought american. Daniel should really throw in some p mags lol nothing wrong with that strikefire its as good as an aimpoint in my books unless you plan on throwing yourself off a boat and going for a swim with your ar. 1-6 trijicon would look ###y. When you do a c clamp does tour thumb show up in the field of view of the red dot or does the high mount help it clear the thumb?

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the Elander mag it came with... I wounder if that's something Wolverine does because the Daniel Defense website shows all the rifles with Pmags.

Is the flash hider pinned? It looks longer than it should be, like they use in the US and pin to reach 16" to avoid SBR paperwork...
Nice gun for sure, I'd love to see DD offer a SOCOM profile barrel on it tho.

Great choice! I too bought a Norinco CQ-A as my first AR a couple of years ago and was contemplating for months now the purchase of this exact same Daniel Defense model. I just love the Milspec + finish and like you, I only like 14.5" barreled AR's. Your not making it any easier.;)

Yupp, they are the same rifles that are in the US market so they are pinned to avoid needing SBR paperwork...
