I am wanting to zero my AR for 100m but I only have to access right now to a 40m range. Anyone have any helpful links or info? Or is someone really good with Math and can tell me where POI should be vs POA.

Thanks

There is a target you can print to zero at 25 yards or meters, can't remember exactly which it shows how to adjust front and rear sights depending on which quadrant your hitting, best part is when you zero you should be set up for up to 300 yards Google 25 meter sighting target print and buy lots of ammo.

A1... Thanks, unfortunately the range I have access to this week only has a 40m target. So I don't have the option of bringing in the target to 25m or me moving forward of the line.

Zero it about an inch low at 40m. It won't be exact for 100m but it will be close.

No math involved, just experience. ;)

I don't know if I should trust you Stevo.....Next weekend is approaching quickly, and that's quite the prize table..... Thanks!

Look at your ballistics table for the round you are using, and you will know what distance at 40 yards will be what (roughly) at 100 yards..

it's simple ballistics..

Eg. for REmington 55 Grain .223

if you want a zero of 100 yeards, it should be 0.459 inches low at a target at 40 yards

pick your ammo, your ranges and it will tell you...

You can zero just fine at 40 meters. Especially if your range (the only place you can shoot the AR) is only set up for 40 meters. If you switch ranges and do t want to re zero, just remember your holds. Anything inside of 40 meters and your POI will be begin to rise higher and higher based on how far forward of 40 meters you go. Anything outside (further) of 40 meters and your POI will be slightly low as your bullit is still rising due to the optic hight over bore. The rise will continue (it's a very very minor rise) until the bullit drops off again and re zeroes itself at about the 200 (ish) range. After 200, the POI will begin to drop slightly until about 400-500 yards at which time the drop becomes much more significant and a strong high hold will be required.

I didn't know Remington had this......too bad I have a Mac and they don't seem to know what one is :(

USMC zero m16 rifles at 36yds in the field and gives a point blank range of 300 yds with zeros at 36 and 200 yds.

just curious.. what do you mean by "point blank range of 300 yards"?? according to the tables, at 300 yards that bullet is about 8" low... (the 36, and 200 line up BTW)

If the OP is using the large sight, IMHO he should zero (at 40 yds) about 1/2 inch low. It should come in just about POA at 100 yds.

Of course, this is dependent on the rifle and the ammo. YMMV

So much bubba info here it's not even funny. If you zero an AR for 100 yards, you'll hit spot on at 100 yards and nothing else before or after that. Your elevation clicks will be way out of whack with the numbers they are marked with.

First we gotta start talking in METERS.

The standard battle sight zero is 25 METERS on the Z setting of a milspec carry handle AR. This will give you point of impact on point of aim at 25 meters at the Z setting and 300 meters on the 3/6 mark of the elevation knob.

The cross over for .223 out of a 20" full size AR is at 36 meters and 300m, since 36 meters is a pretty random point they invented the Z (Zero) setting on the carry handle sight which simulates 36 meters but allows you to zero at 25 meters (the average small handgun range).

Remember to do everything in meters, the sight is military and everything military is in meters, zero at 25 yards and you will be off.

You said you have a 40 meter range, get the target a tad closer to 36 meters and flip the elevation knob to it's lowest setting 3/6 (300/600m setting) and fire until you can get a consistent toonie sized group. You are now zeroed for 300m, everything between 36 meters and 300m will be high so you need to hold under, at 300m you are POA POI, after that you need to do hold overs.

If you can get to 25 meters, same deal except you set it to Z when you zero then you go back to 3/6 when done. Same result.

Thank you Mini… I was just going to post that…
