...after some time on the big marsh things quieted down so i moved to an adjacent canal where i could stand on some solid ground for a few hours ...after setting up my decs i put the boat into a beaver run, camoed the boat, and found a place where i could sit with my dog ...the decs were between me and my boat ...a few ducks came down the channel and we were successful with two ...then some cracking trees on the other side of the channel and a truly big cow moose came out of the grass and into the channel 30 yards straight across and went to make for us like she was in a hurry, although she didn't know we were there, which was startling enough ...but the real show stopper was the breaking of brush/trees behind her and the glint of an antler 50 yards farther inland! ...we didn't wait around for her boyfriend to show up but packed up quickly and crashed back through the brush to our boat ...better to be on the water in a boat than on land and face her boyfriend who was soon to arrive! ...which he did

...never had that one happen to us before!

(yes i had my camera but i was too busy high-tailing it before i got into an unwelcome menage et trios with only #4 2 3/4 steel!!!)

...fun times on the sask river delta ;) (i'm tired, time for bed)

We see moose all the time when duck hunting... many of our spots are in excellent moose habitat... had a cow tromp by within 10 feet of our blind one time... several bulls within 30 yards... scared the crap out of one bull when we unloaded on a flock of mallards when he was standing 40 yards away...

It's sh!it like this that makes hunting an absolute blast. Probably wasn't too funny at the time, but I'm sure you'll have laughs over some beers for years to come.

...didn't tell you that when she entered the water my dog jumped right in! ...in hi-res camo she couldn't even tell i was there ...you've never seen an old man run through alders faster than me! ...yes, beer last night and been laughing about it ever since!!! ...the only place for her to have gotten out was the patch of grass i was standing in (not that that matters to a moose) ...good story to tell to my grand kids ;)

I had almost the very same scenario unfold about four years ago. It was the first time I'd taken my son duck hunting and we set up on the edge of a small pond. A few minutes later a bull moose showed up on the other side, I called, and he made a bee line right for us to within about 50 yards, and then must have got wind of us. My son still talks about that first day of duck season.

Beginning of the story I though you were gonna blame a beaver. ;) They don't take kindly to dogs in their home waters, on occasion.

Grizz

You seriously don't know what a menage a trois is? Imagine being intimately involved with a woman, then imagine your best friend or her best friend joining in and high fiving you. That pretty much some it up. I learned that from TV.
