Hi,

I have read the posts......but what is the latest word on the Bushmaster ACR 18.5" barrel? Is it only a marketing ploy?

Similarly....what is the word on the Bushmaster DMR. When does it start to ship....

I own an ACR and would sure like to convert it to non-restricted.

If anyone has rumors / has the scoop please post....

Tks.

If you want a NR ACR that will blow the doors off any factory offering - just get Ian at Herron Arms to do the conversion.

You can source a MUCH better blank than what will (eventually? maybe?) come with the Bushmaster factory 'DMR'.

Cost will be about $800+ depending on options. Or you can source a Dlask NR barrel and swap the gas system yourself. Haven't heard about the accuracy of those setups.

I'd be curious to hear from someone who did swap the gas system themselves about how much effort was involved with that....

I called Bushmaster a while back and they said they were slated for production in October. At the end of this month I will call again. I guess I will keep calling until I have mine.

For what it's worth (not much), the PRS2 ACR stocks from the DMR have popped up on GB the past little while so who knows.

I can do it in about 5 minutes. Two taper pins and a bolt.
If you get a barrel that isn't cross cut for the taper pins it takes longer but I've done 2 of those as well. Makes it about a 30-45 minute job.

As you know with your Tavor short barrel, but for those that don't know. Once you make it non restricted it's illegal to re-install the short barrel without re-registering it as a restricted (yes, even to only use at the range).
Selling the factory 16 inch seems to be difficult for most but it can be swapped into an AR using a mid-length gas system and it will work fine.
If you can find an 18.6 inch (or longer) AR barrel with a mid-length gas system it can be converted to work in the ACR very easily with the help of a machinist/gunsmith.

Did they say what year? ;)

Buy a used one that someone else has already converted or buy a restricted one and convert it yourself. It's easy and you will have a better rifle in the end for the same or less money, unless you want a heavy rifle for shooting prone or off the bench only.
I think the Dlask barrel will easily be as good as the Bushmaster barrel they put in the DMR version and if you go with a Herron barrel you will have a match grade barrel that is capable of sub moa groups.
The DMR version is going to be even heavier and isn't going to shoot any better than the 16 inch. The 16 inch shoots very well but simply cutting the same blank 2.5 inches longer and leaving it a slightly heavier profile won't make it shoot any better.

I have a non restricted 223 barrel and I built a 300 Blackout conversion as well which is shooting sub moa with my handloads :)

My 2 cents. With AR going non restricted. 18.5 inch acr mqy not be that popular

That's just wishful thinking, I wouldn't hold your breath.
Don't get me wrong, I own 5 AR's and I'd love to see it happen but I just can't see how they would do it unless they also dropped the barrel length restriction as well, all of this just makes too much sense for the government to actually ever agree to it.

I admit I should have went the conversion route but I've already put a deposit down and bought a folding stock and railed handgaurd so I don't want to have to sell those. Plus this comes with the geissele trigger option. So I'll wait at least until Christmas.

That will NOT happen.

Would be cool if it did...but it won't. Its WAY too radioactive for any politician to sell to the Canadian public.

I'd be surprised if we could still own bolt action rimfires after the next Liberal Party term of office.

ACR seems pretty good!

I bought mine used with a 12 inch barrel and a Geissele super ACR trigger for $2300. Sold the 12 inch to pay for most of the 18.6 inch and until I went bonkers and built a 300BLK conversion and bought a 6.8SPC barrel I only had $2500 into it after having it removed from the registry.

You can buy a used ACR for around $2000 now and then convert it and have money for a trigger before you reach the cost of the DMR.
I'd get yourself some store credit for your deposit and just do a conversion.
I hope you bought the basic handgaurd. That stuff will sell fast and for top dollar if you put them on the EE.

This is another reason I hate when the retailers do pre-sales. Just amps up a rifle to gouge people, then they have to wait for the magic unicorn delivery truck to drop off their items.
They have no idea how long the wait will be but they pre-sell the rifles and get everyone excited months in advance (usually longer).
