Pretty set on the Ruger SR-556 vs SigM400, if extra money rears it's head I have a Daniel Defense M4MK18 and the Sig Patrol on stand by...

Where do these companies stand tho?

Windham Weaponry
Core 15
Nea
Norinco
Armalite
Dpms
Bushmaster

I know norinco is Chinese but heard fairly all
good things about them. Bushmaster apparently makes lower end
stuff but prices twice of the norinco? Like I said, pretty certain I'll walk away
with a ruger or a sig but are any of these AR's worth a look for the $$?

Take a look at Wolverine deals on Daniel Defense, and Irunguns on Colt.

Between those two, you won't go wrong with either purchase.

I can recommend a core15 from personal use. I have also tried a daniel defense, and a bcm. Both are arguably superior to core15, but out of that list I would recommend a core15, or a colt 6920.

I would not recommend the ruger sr556, i tried one, I disliked the tighter magwell and the heavier weight. Also parts on the ruger is propietary.

This.

Go D.I. not piston. Parts are a dime a dozen, and they all fit.

If you want to break the bank buy an Alberta Tactical AR-15.

Here's a vid of me and Mrs. smak_daddy shooting mine out to 500 metres with great results.

grab a brand name AR from the EE...lots to choose from and you'll save a lot of money over buying new...but if new is your game then grab the Colt 6920 from IRG...you won't lose money if you decide to sell later

I have a DPMS AR 10, a Norinco CQB and an NEA 7.5. The DPMS is probably the best quality, but also the most expensive of the three. I have had no problems with any of these.

Best deal right now is the Colt from Irungun.
Personally I would wait for Wolverine, they might have another Daniel Defense sale very soon( next week?) If the sale is as good as the last one, DD M4V1 for 999$ it's' a steal!! So have your money or credit card ready and check Wolverine forum a few time a day don't wait they won't last long...

I used to have a Colt SP1. Colt lower with a Olympia upper. It would do 3/4 of a inch all day long( at 100 yds) with WW white box 55 gr. ammo. Sold it when the new laws came in as I was worried about losing it and the money to a gun grab. I was young and couldn't afford the loss. So many years later, and with the norc cqa at Marstar for just over $500.00...I got one of them.Had it for about 3 months now. Same ww ammo I am getting 1 inch groups at 50 yards.Thats with the iron sights and old aging eyes. I now have it scoped up in a burris pepr mount. Havent had a chance to shoot it yet,but hopin it does 1 inch at 100 yds.

The Oracle that some supporting dealers have on sale now for $630.00 sure looks sweet. My buddy has one but I haven't had a chance to handle it yet as he lives 2 hours from me and I live out in the middle of no where rural Alberta. But talking to him,he just loves it and swears by it. Might have to pick one up and try it out.Just my .02 worth on the subject.

I personally wouldn't buy a Norinco.
If you want a piston operated rifle buy a PWS or Adcore otherwise just go DI so you can buy parts anywhere and any brand and have them fit.
I like Stag, Spikes, LMT, DD, Colt, Armalite for DI rifles, not to say others aren't good as I've owned a Bushmaster and had no issues and I've shot a DPMS oracle and own a DPMS LR-308 and they both work fine. Most US built AR's will serve the civilian shooter well.

Brordo has the best advice for a first AR, buy a nice brand name used one off the EE and use the money you save for ammo. While you are shooting it you will figure out what works for you and what doesn't and then you can either swap out parts or buy another one.

BE WARNED!!!
AR's are like crack, once you have one you will spend a lot of money customizing it and then buying more rifles and uppers and lowers. I was up to 6 AR's last week and just traded off an upper and will be selling the lower from that one soon. No other semi auto out there is as accurate as a decent AR even at twice the price so they will also ruin you by giving you expectations that virtually no other semi can live up to.

Enjoy your new habit and be sure to post pics including a range report once you get one.

Good call--that's a better-quality rifle than any on your original list. You'll have to post a picture of it!
