Hand Cannon Thread

Just waiting for my 44 Mag 629 4.2" to arrive...tracking says tomorrow...yaaay. Been wanting a 44 mag for a long time. Just need to get back into reloading in order to feed it.

Nice. I have the same one and love it. Even though it will never be a possibility, I bought it musing that if I was ever able to carry in the backcountry this would probably be it, so i wanted to see how well i could shoot it. I love the balance and it's a lot of fun, but even with factory AE 240gr (which isn't that shout) I still find it a handful. 30-40 rounds per session and I'm good. I can only image how much more intense the 460 and 500 are to shoot.

.460 is a fire breathing dragon, its not explainable, you have to shoot it. ITS BOOM ON STERIODS!

I got the 500 S&W in a rifle. Cannot imagine shooting one out of a handgun. Btw where can a guy get his hands on some 700 gr hard cast for the 500 S&W?

Your current hand cannon options are pretty much revolvers. e.g. 460 and 500 S&W, 45-70 BFR, Freedom Arm 83 from 454-50....

Other than the DE, if you want a unique magnum auto, you need to look at the beauties from yesteryear like the Wildey, LAR Grizzly, and the king - Automag. You pretty much have to be a reloader though, unless you can find the LAR Grizzly in 50AE or 44 mag, but those are super rare.

The Wildey is the most unique semi auto pistol I've handled to date, and gas operated to top it off. Quite well made and intricate! Never got to shoot it though...

500mag all the way!

This is a awesome setup. Is it just me, or do the green projectiles in the second picture look like backwards wadcutters? can someone explain these to me why the cavity is in the front?

I don't own a hand cannon yet (although I've got my eye on 7.5" bbl Blackhawk in .44 or .45 Colt, we'll see how much Christmas hurts), but I did fire a Magnum Research BFR in 45-70 with a 10" barrel. That thing was a BLAST! (Literally).

Nobody with a 454 CASULL ?

You mean like these?

top now sold is a 7.5" barreled Ruger SRH in 454 Casull bottom is the same model but barrel is shortened to 4.25" and tuned by Gunnar @ Armco in Prince George, BC also installed a Crimson Trace laser grip.

I shoot 405gr cast WLNGC's @ 1330fps out of the short barreled SRH as far as I am concerned this combo is the ultimate ATC carry gun not to big/heavy = light enough to carry all day and powerful enough to kill anything that walks in N America bonus is it holds six rounds not just 5 like other revolvers in its class...

Love that custom 4.25. If ruger made one like that with 5 or 6 bull barrel and full top rib, I'd pick it up it up in a heartbeat.
It kind of reminds me of the SKS 'Beast' SRH that was made 25 years ago or so.
