The local dealer have those in stock in 270 WSM.

I admit that I have a hard on for it.

I have a deer hunt in november and that could be a nice rifle. I don't plan to scope it.

I don't need it but you know....

Any negatives in that cal. When cycling.

Any precision issues ?

Adding a scope would help with "precision".

You'd be better off with a good used 81 BLR in 308, esp if you not going to scope it.

The bluing and woods are with made me kick for it.

As far as precision, I don't want to buy a 4 moa gun.

Maybe in the future it could be scoped but not now.

Ok....I think my Guide gun will do this year :(

Here is my story with that exact same gun.

I bought it on a impulse cause I too had a influx of blood to the groin area as soon as I saw it. White Gold Medallion 270wsm. I loved the gun, it cycled super smooth, never had any issues with it. Except!!!! The caliber. Now I'm no darling when it comes to recoil, I have other 270wsm, plus I own 300wsm and 338 Lapua Mag. But in that gun a 270wsm is the WRONG caliber. Trust me! When I bought it I had the choice of 243, I wish I bought that. It would have been 100% my official deer gun. The 270WSM in that light short gun kicked like a donkey. I literally mean that, and the worst part was its vertical kick. I have never fired a rifle which kicked vertically so hard. The end of the barrel would jump back like I was firing a bazooka. I can shoot my 338 Lapua all day if my bank account allows. But this gun was terrible. After 1 round you didn't want to shoot anymore. And I have my one and only weatherby eye from that bastard. I sold it to a buddy...sucker... he then sold it within 3 weeks. He did same thing, fired once and said the hell with this.

If you can find it in 308 or 243 get it. 270wsm Hell no!!

ohh and to add. I have two older brothers and 3 buddies all fired it once. No one ever fired it twice. I was the only idiot who fired 30-40 rounds through it.

You can thank the low comb for that.

I will wait for another cal.

Originaly, I went in the store for a .308.

They have one but in the plain jane blr.

Watch the EE for an 81 BLR. Lots around to find a good one. They were made with all-steel receivers instead of the current alloy offering.

308 makes the most sense or a 358Win if your a handloader looking for something different.

Just to let you know that I foud a retailer that is going to bring a .308 next week for me.

Life is good !

I find even in .308 Win the current BLR is a little tough for recoil, esp from the bench.
I'm sure that the lighter weight (aluminum receiver) is one of the factors.

I'm shooting a reduced .308 Win loading (handload) in mine, love it that way.
125/130g projectile at 2700 ft/sec.

Keep in mind that spare magazines for the steel receiver version are different, and *very* rare.

You'll likely wait quite while even to get spare magazines for the current new BLR. They are harder to find than the new rifles :)
Once I settled on .308 Win, I started on acquiring magazines the same time as finding the model variant I wanted.
(Stainless takedown in .308 Win). Still had magazines trickling in after I found and purchased the rifle.
(Backorder city).

Heads up, the .308/7mm-08/.243 current BLR magazines all work the same, in spite of how they are marked.
Not surprising, same cartridge body dimensions below the neck.
