***Help with Eotech XPS2 reticle for M4 rifle***

Hey guys...going to be picking up an Eotech XPS2 in the next week or so for my M4, but wanted a few opinions before doing so. Do any of you have experience with using the XPS2-0 and the XPS2-2? What I want to know is if the second 1 MOA dot below center is actually as usefull as it is made out to be. The optic for me, will be used primarily for TPC (3 gun), so I've been questioning the relevance of the -2 model. However, there will be days where I will be plinking at further distances (100 yards +), so I'm thinking that I may actually incorporate the added dot. What do you guys think? Is it worth getting the the XPS2-2, or does the second dot just become added "clutter" in the sight window?

I have an xps 2-2 the second dot is more or less useless I've read that the center dot is 100 and the second dot is actually 500 meaning it's useless to most of us.

Just holding center with the middle dot hits pretty much everything at all ranges I've shot at.
 
I have the XPS 2-2 and I've never used it past 100yds. I have a 3x magnifier but it just helps me be more accurate at 100yds. I have it on my 9mm AR now and pretty much just shoot at 25 and 50 yards with it, I prefer 1-4x for the shooting I do on my 223 and 300BLK AR's. If I was going to get into 3-gun that might change though.
 
I just checked the Eotech website...they claim that for the XPS2-2, the center dot is 50 and 200 yards, and the lower dot is 500 yards. I guess it can also be set up as 25 and 300 for the center dot, as per the standard US army AR15/M4 sight in. That second dot would be pretty useless without any type of magnification for engaging a 500 yard target...

It depends how far out you plan to shoot with it but I personally own the EXPS2-0 and like it a lot for my M4 upper 16"...also the extra 1/3 height and quick detach is great.
I can see using the 3x magnifier with the XPS2-2 would be great to shoot out to 200 and longer...I also own an ACOG TA31CH and use that for SR matches and shot up to 500m with it. I use the ACOG also at CQB matches as well...10m-35m and it works great

I bought mine used and it came with a fake aimpoint 3x magnifier which actually works pretty well but I'm sure a real name brand magnifier would be an improvement. The good magnifiers are so darn expensive I can't bring myself to upgrading it. It works well enough for the ranges I use it at with the 9mm.
It's all on a Larue QD mount and the magnifier has a twist off mount so it can be removed easily. Nice little set-up.
I think the general consensus is that the Aimpoint sight is tougher and has way longer battery life though. I prefer the larger lens area of the EoTech though as it seems to give a better field of view for me since my eyes don't work well trying to look through it with both open.
 
I'd like to get an Aimpoint in the future, but I can't bring myself to spending that much cash on a red dot optic. I know that they are REALLY good, and that their battery life is out of this world, but I can't put it together...Aimpoint Micro T1, plus riser mount for M4, and you're in the $750 + range, for a BNIB set-up. The Comp M4's are even more...I know that the PRO is alot less expensive, but in my opinion, I just think that it's too bulky...sorry to the guys who swear by the PRO...YMMV. That's why I'm looking at the XPS2 line up. Pretty much buy it, and attach it to your rifle...around the mid $500 range, and nothing extra to buy unless you want to add some sort of lens covers.

So the debate continues...-0 or -2? Keep the opinions coming...

IMHO the EoTech donut of death is faster to pick up than the Aimpoint... The EoTech FOV is waaaay bigger too., which helps when running CQB.

Multi-year battery life is a red herring in my book. They all have auto shut offs, and if you put a fresh set of quality batteries in each Spring you're GTG.

I'm not often engaging beyond 200, and the vast majority is CQB in my face. AS SUCH, I think the 2-2 reticle is a distraction. If you're doing most of your shooting at 200 plus you should probably get a proper scope with an offset RDS for CQB.

Good point...so it seems the -0 is becoming the fan fav. All with good explanations, though.
 
I have the EXPS2-0 on my 12.5" NEA, which I use for CQB. It works great! I had also considered the -2 but couldn't see myself using an EOTech at those distances. For my Service Rifle rig I will be using either an ACOG or an ELCAN of some flavour.

Personally I can't use the Aimpoint because of my right eye Astigmatism, even with proper prescription glasses its like a slanted distorted line for me, not a dot.
The EOTech 1 MOA dot comes crisp for me and even better outdoors with natural lighting.

Some shooters may also not use the EOTech as recommended: You should focus your eyes on the target not the reticle, takes some getting use to...

I used to have a Vortex SPARC, way back when...I had the same issue with the dot and my right eye...slanted and fuzzy, but perfect with my left. I know that it's a pretty "effed-up" comparison to an Aimpoint, but that's primarily the reason I want to go with the Eotech. I'm probably gonna end up picking up an Aimpoint sometime down the road, but I really want to improve on my shooting with both eyes open. I figure that by doing so, and being a bit easier to learn with the Eotech (in my opinion, anyway), if I ever do make the transition to Aimpoint, the dot will not be as distorted while shooting with both eyes as opposed with one...

I hope that kinda' makes sense...
 
I think that I'm convinced on which Eotech I'm gonna grab. The XPS2-0 seems to be the fan fav, and with good reviews. The general opinion on the second dot seems to be the same right across the board: useless unless you are shooting past 200 yards. But on that note, Phat Eagle made a great point: if you are gonna be shooting out to those distances, why not use a proper, magnified optic, and back that up with an RDS for CQB? Good point.

XPS2-0 it is. Thanks for all of the replies. If you guys have any more info to contribute, please continue to do so. I always like hearing others' opinions.

I use the EoTech on my 11.5" M4, for close up (50yards or less) and I find it slightly confusing with the two dots.....I have an Aimpoint PRO on my 16" Stag for longer distances....and love the simplicity of the one dot on the PRO.
 
How is your eyes, as you get old your eyes start to devlop astigmatism and the red dot sights will start to flare out like a star with Eotechs they will look look like a red thumbprint.

What do you mean by thumbprint? I totally understand the flared out star, but what exactly does the Eotech "thumbprint" look like? Does the outer ring sort of bleed in towards the center dot?
