Yeah seems they'll only issue them to prospectors, loggers, trappers on a registered trapline etc. pretty well anyone who works in the bush on a regular basis. I was lucky enough to get approved to carry while on my line up north.

But they wont give them out

A person holding a pal should be granted a atc automatically .... Wait wouldnt that render it pointless

Come on now, don't be hijacking the thread - this is about what people figure are ideal grouse guns, not open carry for handguns in Canada - there are more than enough threads about that already:rolleyes:

I've always used a slingshot, however this year I purchased a little side by side 410 and will give that a go. Although the gun accepts the 3 inch shells, I'm only using the 2 1/2, #7 shot.

Currently using a Union Armera (Grulla) 12 ga. with 1 oz. of # 8's.

Would prefer a good 20 or 28, but so far haven't found one I like in my Snack Bracket.
I'd like either an original A.H. Fox or a Parker with modern stock configuration (most of the
golden oldies have way too much drop) and might even settle for the right Parker repro or
a new manufacture Fox (CSM) or Ithaca Classic double, just haven't found the right one.
I've looked with much interest at a couple of Arrietta SxS's that might do the trick too !

Have owned & used an Ithaca 200E SxS and a 500 O/U in 20, a BSS 20 and a Win. 101 in 20 at various times,
just not the PG&WG (Perfect Grouse & Woodcock Gun) I was (and still am) looking for ... or had
the cash on hand at the time.

I usually shoot them while I'm doing something else, and if that something else includes carrying a rifle, I might have a few small game rounds in my pocket. Its the handloader who makes a rifle versatile.

I loaded some 30-06 with 110 gr. HP's with a light load of Unique while caribou hunting to use on Ptarmigan, worked really well out to 25 yards or so, which is long range on them.

I've taken to using my 17hmr on a regular basis. Its deadly accurate, even out to 100 yards, cranking the scope up makes head shots a breeze. Plus the bullets fragment easily, usually removing said head and making cleaning very easy. Very little drama after head shot, and there is no worry about chipping a tooth. It's also cheaper than with a 12 gauge (unless your shooting skeet shot), not so hard on the hearing, and is just plain fun to shoot. And if you find an empty Apple orchard in the woods, picking off crab apples is quite entertaining.
