SVT-40 sniper list

Hey,

Just picked up a real 1941 Tula Sniper from SFRC. It has the "C" stamp on the front of the receiver and the correct square bottom, rounded shoulders scope notch and has serial # HN1316(backwards N though). Looks to have a nice bore, but is hard to tell with all of the cosmoline in it. It is in a refurb. AVT stock from 1943.

There is another 1941 Tula at SFRC if anyone is interested. It falls in the correct Sniper serial number range listed in the first post and looks to have a nice bore as well. The only thing I did notice about it is the receiver is a little loose in the original SVT40 stock (it can probably be shimmed easily). The wrist of the stock also has the reinforcing bolt through it.

Russian version was identical. But there is a cyryllic word Габрово at the button. This is city in Bulgaria. Postwar bulgarian SVT pouches were also produced there
 
Heads up to anyone using a repro mount on an SVT- on my '41 genuine former sniper (is on Ratniks list) the cross-pin in the bracket or mount is too high and has deformed the rear side of the notch. probably about 100 rounds and the top corner is pretty badly rounded. I'm not going to continue using until I've figured a way to correct this. I have two repro mounts and both have this issue. Meanwhile I've turned my highly accurate $200 Lever SVT into a replica field-expedient sniper with a hand filed notch that is shallow enough that the cross pin properly mates with it- strangely my (probably) real field converted sniper (a '42 Tula with side rails) has a similar shallower notch and 100 rounds through that with the repro mount did no damage.

Horilka: Is your damage at the frontt or rear of the notch? The spring holds the mount with the pin firmly against the rear of the notch, then as the rifle recoils, it allows the mount to slide forward then pushes it back into battery. Mine shows no evidence of the pin hitting the front of the notch and I wonder if my spring may be too stiff? But the real problem on mine is that the rounded countour of the pin doesn't sit down fully on the matching surface in the notch. So, I wonder if the repro mounts are not perfect replicas.

The pin does not need to touch the bottom of the notch. Repro mounts are exact copies at least Russian made. Some mounts coming out of Ukraine are cheap Made in China copies but they are easy to spot. Grab the mount by the fork if it is springy it is good if soft it comes from Ukrainian source that buys them in China

I think there is some confusion here. Best mounts were actually made in Ukraine, now happy owners don't want to part with them, and some of them were used to make fakes of original mounts and scored some premium bids at ebay. Those mount are not produced anymore and even for me, for a guy who knows a lot of ppl in Ukraine gun relared community, it's impossible to get one. Most of the repros on the markets are made in Taiwan, I have two, one with buffer stuck inside its tube. I heard there are two more sources of replicas but never had any experience with them.

The notch on my rifle is damaged at the rear end too. Now I'm thinking how could weak sping be a cause for this and don't understand. Weak sping should cause hard hit ont front part of the notch. And when the mount slides back driven by spring I cant imagine any type of spring thatcould make such a damage. Need to put mount on rifle and play with it.
 
What's the going rate for a svt40 sniper at the moment, I'd like to pick one up. Have a hankering for a scoped milsurp, being a lefty a semi auto would be the best and I already have a hard on for the svt40.
 
Lever has had some for sale. Beware of their Izzy sniper - it is more than likely legit but it would be a field made example. I wouldn't pay $750 for a sniper that you can never prove is real.
Only Tula snipers can be documented as they fell into blocks and were done at the factory.

Frontier Firearms sometimes has them and sells them for $400

If you check racks at stores sometimes you can get a sniper for regular cost as they don't know what they have. I got lucky at a Wholesale Sports two weeks ago and a friend got a field made example Izzy at a gun show for the price of a standard rifle.

NewSVTs are getting scarce as the majority of recent imports are from the Ukraine and due to the situation on the ground we won't seen rifles from there for awhile.

Lever, The Ammo Source and Marstar probably have the best supply.

I know I'm doing a group deal and buying out the local Canadian Tire for this very reason.
 
My repro mount had the same issue.
I got brave and filed the bottom of the hole out until it was exactly in line with the notch in the receiver.
Of course the pin that came with the mount is now way too loose,so I made a new one that fits very snug in the hole and touches the bottom of the notch.
Have not shot it yet,but the mount fits very tight on the rifle,not a bit of movement,will give a range report later,too cold and snowing at the moment.
