Who likes the H&R handy rifle?

Handi's are great!
I just have one but want to increase that number.
Has anyone managed to get their rifle down to H & R for additional factory fitted barrels? I think this is more or less impossible from Canada or so expensive that it is not worth it?
Just have to buy more complete rifles I guess!

Last I heard, it's a bit of a grey market thing. You need an American middleman, and it would surprise me if you could get a barrel for under $350. Most of the barrels are quite affordable, but it's the shipping and handling that breaks it.

Me:) I also wish we Canadians could buy barrels:(

I just got lucky in the EE a couple years ago, a member offered a couple and I bought the .308Win. How he got them or what he might want with un-barreled Handi-Rifles I have no idea. I got lucky a second time when the barrel fit my rifle without any tweaking. At the time I talked to the Gravel Agency, the Remington,Marlin,H&R service agent for Canada and they said they have tried to persuade the manufacturer to supply them with accessory barrels and let them do the fitting as the factory does in the U.S. but no luck so far.

i have been looking for one in .308 for quite some time. I would love a stainless synthetic but I will probably end up settling for the blue/wood if I could ever find one.

Open sights require finding one that comes that way, or finding compatible sights and then someone to smith them on. I'm lazy.

Williams Gunsight aperture, about $40 from Brownell's, 2 screws to install, 2 screws to remove the rear sight on the barrel, use the filler plugs from the rear holes to fill the two holes where the OEM rear was. 5 minutes max, if you can't do this you shouldn't leave the house without a helmet...

What are you carrying Dorian???[/QUOTE]

I sincerely hope it's not Aids!

We had a lot of trouble with those NEF rifles may years ago. Had quite a few in different cartridges. Many would not eject, some would spring open when fired, and some the hinge knuckle would loosen and sometimes break. I would however buy another full wood stock H&R in 30-30. I sold my sweetheart and am so sorry about doing that.:(
I think I remember who I sold it to. I'm gonna go back in my TR's and PM him to see if he still has it and would like to sell it back to me.

That relies on having a gun with pre-existing iron sights, or as I mentioned finding someone to smith the sights onto the gun. Takes a bit more than five minutes to measure, drill, and tap the receiver and barrel for sights.

If your gun is tapped for the scope mount there are many options for peep sights... Williams, Skinner, NoDak etc...

Do they make them in 45lc that you can scope....ie not the 410/45lc survivor model which I dont think is drilled and tapped?

they have one,but it's in the buffalo classic price range. It's called CR Carabine, has open sights,20"barrel,.45Colt,and color hardened case...looks kinda old style fancy.
H&R # CR-45LC
