great question... I dont often bother to look at those ads because I am pretty sure I cant afford a "rare" rifle. And I am not sure rare is always a good thing. Is it rare because it was heavy as hell, very expensive, impossible to get parts for and didnt shoot half as well as a box stock pedestrian M700? ... like say a "Nikko Golden Eagle" in 300 Win Mag? Or is it rare like a Belgium Browning Safari bolt with gorgeous metal and bluing .. and a salt wood stock? ...

Meh...What may be common in one part of the country could be rare in another.

But personally I'm hesitant to pay over $300 for a used firearm.

Far to often people confuse rare with desirable.

The funny thing is, that I have actually owned some very rare firearms, one being a very limited production Anschutz 1907R , and I don't recall even using the word rare in the ad, when I sold it in the EE. I figure that if it truly is rare, the kind of buyer that will likely be interested, will know that it is rare.

Just because it is RARE does not make it special, it probably means it is junk, and they quit making them

Not always the case. For example a Swiss model 1889/96 is a rare gun. A Swiss 96/11 isn't. The reason the 1889/96 is rare is because they converted pretty much all of them into the 96/11 standard.
