That is very true, and why I believe that more hunters targeting wolves specifically should look to viable deer cartridges rather than typical coyote cartridges...

what about shooting a woyote? reading in the paper that some wolves and coyotes have been cross breeding in the area, making for some rather large coyotes, large enough that they are actually taking down full sized cows.

That's just the degenerate eastern representatives. Timber wolves don't screw coyotes, they eat them.

a 223 will do, but a 243 or better-yet, a 257 Wby will do much better...

If you are specifically targeting wolves with a 223, you'll be fine, just consider 2 rules ....no FMJ and no varmints rounds. Use a TSX, GMX, Partition or other type style/constructed round.
