Being a new hunter, I was just wondering if there is a glaring hole in the Tag system if one happens to "lose" their lottery drawn antler-less tag, or purchased Buck tag, or am I missing something (the latter being most likely)? If I take a deer with the appropriate tag in my possession, properly punching the time and date on the tag, and placing it on the antler or through the animals ear, yet never encounter a CO from harvesting to processing, could I go to the MNR claiming I lost my tag, pay $10 and get another tag? Could the MNR refuse you? I know a few guys who purchased tags before the season started, who only hunt in our WMU using Muzzle-loaders (work, family constraints), so it is completely conceivable that they could have legitimately lost their tags in the months prior to their hunt and need to replace them.
It seems to me that this could be done quite easily with the current system. Illegally of course.
Please do not misconstrue this post as anything but an honest question. I am not condoning this. I have truly fallen in love with Hunting and want to ensure I/We can continue to do so for years to come.
Thanks!
