Anyone else here pissed away a ton of money on one of those super cool tactical stocks added an expensive rail with a red dot worth more than the sks bought a bunch of extra mags for no reason? Just to find that it shoots worse and the aftermarket mags are a pita.
Had to sell mine a while back. I don't know what I was thinking?
If I do get another sks it's going to be bone stock.

No, but I kept the original stock (refinished), and use the Kwikrail and 3-9X32 Scope. Mine shoots 1 1/4-1/2" groups at 100yds. And I use the Promag 5 round mags. Had to modify them a bit but they work fine for me.

SKS + 1000$ of aftermarket crap = useless....

If you want to bolt crap onto a riffle get an AR ....

SKS + trigger job = More fun than my Tavor.... Ok not really but close....

Guilty, but it was the most beater of my SKS'.

And at least I can turn it back to normal configuration... plus there are always people looking for tacticool accessories. No harm, no foul :)

I have a '51 Tula wearing an ATI folder...I put the near mint wooden stock safely away, and the ATI makes the rifle more convenient to bush carry, and provides a longer LOP for my monkey-arms.

I did not notice a decline in accuracy...in fact, with a bipod mounted it shoots better...although SKS bayos make great monopods!

I'm not sure it's more "tactical" in the ATI, just more ergonomically "evolved". As for "get an AR if you want to add accessories"...huh?

You mean buy a "restricted" rifle that shoots .223,, and only at a range ( with the gov'ts kind permission)??

Thanks, I'll pass.
Apples and elephant-in-the-room...

I like both. But the aftermarket stuff has to be done right. Otherwise it looks weak and feels unnatural .

Mine is similar to Goo98's ^^^.
A blend of modern parts, no optics and not overdone.

The first SKS I bought was to tacticool it. And I did. Threw it in a Tapco stock and UTG rail.

Couple of months later it went back into the laminate stock. Was a stock only refurb. And was beautiful!

I'm still hoping for the ultimate tacticooled sks.... but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not a purist in any way shape or form but the accessories available for the SKS suck. That Tapco AR-looking stock may look badass, but if you actually hold it irl, it's junk. The ATI folding stock looks absolutely retarded and feels flimsy. The only accessories I would buy for my SKS are tritium sights and maybe that synthetic stock:

put on an archangel stock. Worked great, with tapco mags. Anything to do with messing with sights or anything really other then the stock will screw it up. lol They are great rifles.... The way they are lol

This might be a dumb question, but is there any way to add wood furniture to make an sks look like an ak?

I agree with you there rocket, if I ever did get another that's probably all I would do. The tapco mags are pretty crappy and it's a piss off having one built to hold 20 but pinned to five.

I have a blk Monte Carlo stock that has been in use and out of use on both my Chinese and Russian SKS'. Although comfortable to shoulder, it was just too heavy for long shooting sessions.
Initially I became less than thrilled with my Tapco, but I found the buttstock was a big culprit. It made the whole rifle feel wobbly and cheap. Now I put a ATI Talon stock on it and its much better feeling.
I've also always made Tapco mags work with some minor smithing.
Add the pistol grip mod for easier cleaning, and a glock grip, and the thing feels and shoots quite good.

First SKS I acquired was tricked out, neat to handle. Traded it off for 2 Lee Enfields +200 $$$.
Bought the next one when the prices were at an all time high...320 $ for a Russian Laminate. But I'm happier with it.

Not ALL sks rifles have the Same dimensions.
Some tapco Mags fit Right-In, some require FITTING. Some feed 100% and some are a real Pain in the azz.
Some are very accurate...others can be less accurate. Some have bent, or Canted front sights. Some are made of Miss-Matched parts and others are all Matching.
If your smart & done Your home work, and hand pic, youl get a very nice rifle that shoots well, and is easy to modify.
the MagWedge Rail is by far the BEST option for Good optics. Others are so-so.
Some aftermarket stocks are junk......on any rifle.
There is a TON of aftermarket stuff for ALL rifles......be careful what you buy and DO YOUR RESEARCH. read the forums and find out what works and what doesn't.
