School me on the 7x57

Thanks for that link. A well written little article. I happen to have rifles chambered in 7x57, 6.5x55, and of course, 30-06. All three calibres are permanently represented in my modest collection. I also really enjoy shooting 7.62x39, and find the match grade ammo surprizingly accurate.

I had this one built for me over 20 years ago, every year I leave for hunt camp and take it as well as another rifle, always telling myself this year I will use a something different ....... and every year I use the 7X57.
It's never let me down .... so why change??

7X57 has a performance edge over 7mm-08 "IF" you reload... if not, I would say," go with the 7mm-08... for your stated purposes there are a number of cartridges that work... 7mm RM is probably the best of these when all factors are considered (IMO)... platform will be your next issue...

I also carry a Ruger No.1-RSI and M77 in 7X57... I load the 154 SST/IB over W760 and RL-19.

Thanks... I think of myself as a "firearm portal"... through which they must pass and thus achieve a higher plane...




Or some other such "gobble-de-gook"... I like guns.

Great looking firearms in this thread. I did really want to get a 7x57 for the history of it as I enjoyed hunting with my full wood No4 but I ended up with a Zastava in .308 due to availability. Maybe in the future there will be a 7x57/8mm/.375h&h in my safe, with any luck all three!

One of the very early smokeless cartridges. Canadian soldiers would have been on the receiving end of it in the Boer War. It saw use by both sides in WWI and was chambered in some of the finest items to ever come out off a factory (think Brazilian Model 1935). It was chambered in rifles ranging from the Remington Rolling Block to the FN49.
