Need to know: why the love for the SIG MK25

It has to do with all the extra US NAVY things they added to ensure it would survive the rigours of maritime operations with the sailors in NSW.

-S.

Now i get it. They did their M11 (SIG 228) and after they finish that program SIG had some left overs chemicals ?...LOL
Not critical, just curious.

The MK25 is a good deal compared to normal p226 as it also comes with night sites and 3 mags along with the 1913 rail. It is just a great pistol to shoot i cant explain it much better

Really nothing makes them so "special". It's just marketed to the right people who are willing to pay an extra $400 for using what "they" use. Hook, line and anchor...oops...meant sinker.

I can make it more clear, dollar for dollar: (all dollar values approximate; may not represent best value in your area.)

Sig p226 @$999.00 w/2 mags
+ night sites @$155.00
+ extra mag @$45
+ mil spec 1913 rail @$$$
+ fully nitron coated @$$$
+ cosmetic anchor @$$$

= $1199.00 which, coincidentally, is what a MK25 goes for. Not a bad deal, overall.

Still no answer.....i need to know from the guy that paid $400 for the anchor. Also not a Glock vs Sig or a Ferrari vs Lamborghini, just i don't understand how they can sell a moon racket to the guy crying about the gas prices.

You are sigboy so correct me if I am wrong but the mk25 has phosphated internals where the standard one does not, from what I recall the mag springs still rusted from use in maritime places from an ex seal. For me I think it's dumb, a standard works fine with trijicon hd(my sight of choice.)

Anytime - http://navyseals.com/weapons-demo/. Had a few of the M11 mags, i think i sold them here. Stainless internals, heavy coating body, they are so special they are still made by JP Sauer in Germany. No other mag manufacturer can beat them on the 120 hours salt water test. But again I'm talking about the only Sig they used called M11 and while looks like a MK25 it is a bit different. No night sights, no rail, no phosphate coated internals.......no 226 either, never mind the anchor. Yes the old style 228 was that pistol and still used by lots of the Navy and Air Force guys (don't know about the seals)

Short extractor is actually more reliable and durable than the long one.

That's up for debate. I've got both, no failures of any sort with either. I read about some of the chambers being a little undersized on the initial run of the longer extractors, thus leading to the misguided blame on the extractors.

Or not.

Perhaps - and I'm guessing now - there are a significant number of shooters who need "over the beach" capability to get to and from their approved ranges??

Gotta love it!!

I am an MK25 owner. I did buy it a large part because I thought it looked cool with the anchor, but there were some other attributes, including:

1. Short extractor versus a long one. I prefer the short style.
2. Regular Sig grips versus most going to the E2
3. Three Mec-Gar magazines versus two Checkmate mags. I would have tried to sell the Checkmates for Mecgar mags anyways.
4. An apparent higher attention to detail with this gun. Rumor, perhaps, but I read about less problems with the MK25 than other P226s.
5. Night sights. Some other Sig models have 'em, not all.

I sold a gasp German Sig P-series to buy it, too!

I have my Glock 17 and my MK25...the MK25 was a lot more expensive but I don't regret purchasing it and it comes out every time I shoot handguns.
It's an expensive gun but I felt it was worth it so I put my money down.

it also has a chrome lined barrel
