The JR Carbine Thread

There already is one.

I wonder if the added length in the buffer tube would make any difference? I have a folding adapter sitting around, but I have that buffer extension because mine is a .45, and I don't really feel like fiddling with it now that it's finally working well.

The rifle uses standard AR buffer tube / castle nuts, one of the vendors here must carry 'em if you need extras.
Why the extra bolt handle ?

Stripped my bolt handle screw so another bolt and screw for $7 wasn't too bad of a deal. If they don't send me buffer tube/castle nuts I'll look elsewhere for them.

I just did the same thing today. I have to remember to loctite the next one. Not much of the screw actually threads into the bolt it seems.

I'm getting 1, or 2 FTFeeds with glock magazines every 10rds with a .40 JR. Any suggestions? I sent an email off to JR as well. I don't want to sell/trade it not being 100%

Have you done the magazine spring mod already, lone-wolf? That's probably the first thing. In the end, what I needed to do with my JRC was have them ship me a new buffer, buffer spring, feed ramp...and had Joe at Dlask cone out my chamber. Feeds perfectly now, even when dirty. Tom at JRC will take care of you...even if takes a while.

No mod done, I thought that's only for the 45s

JR already sent me some new trigger parts for a dead trigger issue, free of charge on a rifle I bought used. So I have faith they'll take care of me.

I was just thinking that if your 40 is experiencing feeding issues, might be worth trying the same spring mod.

Mine runs perfect when it's clean, once it gets dirty - it does the same. My TDC runs perfect all the time, before it broke a firing pin, that is :nest:

KCI mags were absolutely useless in both my .40's (JR & TD). Pure garbage.

I recently got a jr carbine. Love it so far for what it is a cheap to shoot fun plinker. It's a good nonrestricted AR-ish trainer. My question is that on VERY rapid shooting my trigger is not resetting. I'm getting a dead trigger. It chambers a round. But won't fire. If I give a slight pause between trigger pulls its fine. I'm just wondering if this is a problem or just the way these are? If I upgraded to a better trigger group would this solve it? It's very light with no recoil so rapid double taps are easy and fun but not so much when you get a dead trigger. Also I did have two failure to ejects while trying this. Using JRC glock mag.

Hey guys (and muddy girls)..
I took my JRC in 9mm out to shoot for the first time last week.
Had one failure to fire in 30 rounds.
After looking at the spent cases I noticed that a good 70% of them had had light primer strikes. No pointy firing-pin "dent" in the primers but rather a larger (than the firing pin) circular pattern/mark on the primers.
If you watched the Iraqveteran8888's Just Right or not Just Right (or whatever it's called) youtube vid and saw what their primers looked like afterwards (at about 6:15 in the video iirc), that is exactly how mine looked. Except it didn't show any that were raised or almost blown out of the case like one of the iraqveteran8888's did.

Have any of you inspected your spent 9mm brass and have you noticed any light primer strikes on the cases?

I sent JRC an email but haven't heard back yet. I bug them quite a bit so they're probably pretty sick of me :-(
Thanks in advance fellas.

I have hundreds of rounds now through my 9mm JR with no fails to feed or fire yet.
All of my brass has that shallow "crater" that you speak of.
The only issue I have with mine is that it needs shorter OAL ammo (I reload all of my 9mm), otherwise a live round can stick in the chamber if you clear the rifle manually. 1.13" with a standard RN profile (Berry's / CamPro) seems to be about the limit, but it's even a little fussier with Hornady XTP's.

I using glock magazines. And it's clean.

Todd iirc, called from JR today, he stressed that I must of purchased the carbine long ago. It doesn't even have a threaded barrel so I assume so.
Anyways, he wanted some buffer tube measurements.
Basically promised to get it reliable.

How do you disassemble a JR carbine??

Does a JR carbine change the magazine well to switch from Glock mags to 1911 mags?!? Or is it a totally different receiver?

Does anyone know who makes the 9mm mags for JRC now? They don't say GLOCK anywhere on them nor does it say where they are made on them.
I don't own any actual glock mags but I have a few KCI. I have one of their 33rd 9mm glock mags in front of me and the metal feedlips and the followers look pretty much identical. Other than their lengths of course there is one pretty noticeable difference. The KCI has the mag release indent on both sides. There are two of them instead of only one on the right side like the JRC mag. That single notch or indent though is quite a bit deeper on the JRC mag than the two on the KCI mag. Like maybe .025" deeper. That's probably fairly significant since it is the only mag stop the JRC has. Definitely don't wanna slap the high cap KCI mags into your JRC's well with the bolt open I guess.

They asked me how long my buffer tube is this morning too. Mine is about 7-3/4" from the butt to the start of the threads and about 8-1/2" to the back of the receiver.
What do you guys measure your 9mm buffer tubes to be?
