If you do get a replacement make sure you trim it to the right length, i swapped mine out with one slightly to long and caused my firing pin to stick forward after the first shot and fire the 9 remaining in one quick burst, scared the bejesus outta me.
I don't get it?
I haven't taken my bcg out yet but...so are you saying that the threaded charging handle hole goes all the way through and intersects the firing pin channel? And that your firing pin was then held held forward by the overlength charging handle??
If so...that seems so wrong in so many ways.
As most of us know, the early JRCs had some growing pain issues. Most were remedied but I saw one guy's yt vid where he showed how the firing pins were free floating but not only that, they were shorter than the bolt. Only inertia caused the firing pin to continue it's forward travel and slam into the primer.
That's one thing but if the charging handle holes go right into/penetrate the firing pin channel...well unless you have something threaded into the "other" charging handle hole...couldn't a bunch of gunk get in there and do essentially the same thing as what happened with the overlength charging handle threaded section?
Man, there is a lot to love about the JRCs but there is still some stuff they should fix before it's TOO late.
Now I'm EXTRA glad I have a second charging handle on the way. It's REALLY gonna be multitasking now. Dual charging handles so I can use either hand (I'm leftie though), the extra acts as another BCG "guide", and now, keeps the firing pin channel sealed and clean.
They fixed a lot of issues (including common light primer strikes) by installing heavier buffers and buffer springs. That's awesome but now they really should tend to the firing pin (and takedown pins/screws...that's ALL!!) and install at least a longer one...if not spring loaded AND longer. That probably would have addressed a lot of the early version issues in itself. They fixed things "properly" where other companies may have just said...hmmm..we just need to install longer firing pins! Cheap cheap!!
So now just IMAGINE how incredibly reliable the JRCs would be if they had longer (and spring loaded) firing pins!!
Maybe springs are unnecessary? Longer sure would be nice though?
If they refuse to "fix" the pins or say that to do so would raise the end price,....I know there aren't as many JRC owners as SKS owners but maybe companies like Murray's will start offering JRC firing pin upgrade kits.
Might be pretty unnecessary(springs). They haven't been packed in cosmoline for 50 or 70 years like the SKSs have.
