The JR Carbine Thread

Thanks. I was out at an outdoor range on saturday morning north of Montreal. So, the "range officer LOL" comes along, and keeps giving my JR, which looks like a big bad AR, the stink-eye. I was just waiting for him to make a comment. But he didnt. Then the fellow next to me, equally uninformed, asks me if its a full auto? If its illegal? So I had to explain to him that its non-restricted - he didnt seem to know what that meant. ANyway, I had alot of fun with it. Going back on thursday or friday morning.

I got stopped on Monday walking the fence line of my property with my JR by a wildlife officer. He was doing routine range road patrol and asked me if what I was hunting and hunting with. I told him I was the land owner and just looking for coyotes; he was very friendly and polite, no over reaction at all. Talked about 20 minutes about the JR and he seemed to like it. A good experience.

had issues with 45 cal, got the gun off this forum and as usual worked great until Canada post delivered it, I had feeding issues, would not #### for the next round and pierced casings, worked with the company, great customer service and after a few parts the gun works great, fed 500 rounds thro with only one feed issue and I caused the issue short stroking the action.

if you asked me after the delivery it was not working period and no way it did, after the customer service input it is awesome.

for the record, Jr had no reason to help me, it was a older vintage and I was not the original purchaser, they changed everything but the body and barrel, I would recommend this gun

I've called the JR people in NY state for technical advice regarding changing the hard guard, etc, and they were very helpful.

Good morning JR people. Question: I have the 9mm version, with a 13" troy battle rail, an A2 style carry handle with short rail for the scope and an A2 style tower front sight. Gun looks good and works good. My problem is with the scope. Its a barska contour, 3x9-42. Magnification is OK, but the problem is eye relief. Being that the stock on the JR is adjustable, and I prefer to have it almost or totally fully collapsed, my eye is too close to the scope to get the full picture. I like the way the scope is mounted, so I dont have to tilt my head 45 degrees to look thru the optic. Shooting position is comfortable, but I think a scope with a shorter eye relief would work better. I could move the carry handle forward on the rail of the upper so that it is partially on the troy, but that might look weird. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for a scope (without breaking the bank)? Thanks

Try a Bushnell AR-22, Eye relief is good, and the bullet drop comp marks are actually pretty close. Sight in at 50, go up 2 dots, hit at 150. Use an offset mount to move the scope further forward too.

I just bought one of these used in 9mm pretty slick unit but havnt had a chance to try it out yet. Came with an EoTech 512 sight and extended 10/30 mag, quad rail and 3 point AR stock

Not sure what else might have been done to it but I do have to clean thoroughly, thing is filthy.

Added a cheap vertical grip to it.

Don't know what else to look for on this that might be a concern or might have been modded, any advice would be nice :)

Looks really good! I just ordered one of these carbines. I also have a 13" troy rail like yours only without the front sight on an upper I'm not using think I'll install it on the JR when it arrives. Just wondering was it an easy install?

Really digging the retro look on these too great work guys! Might need a second one :)

follow the build the suggestions here. Will help get a good firm mount for your floating system.

First gen had (I believe 3)diagonal slots on the forend between the quadrail 2nd generation have circular holes between the rails goin down the forend

Wasn't there also a difference in the barrel profiles? Didn't the earlier version have a triangular profile in the middle of the barrel, while the later ones had barrels that were completely round? At least that seemed to be the case for the .45.

Thanks. Did you use the washer from the VW engine trick to install your troy rail?
I've got a bunch of parts. Just waiting for the rifle. A lot of the parts I already had. Only ordered the barrel shroud

-13" troy rail
-barrel shroud
-Magpul buttstock and miad grip
-Magpul mbus
-10/33 glock mag
-aimpoint pro

Screw inside the charging handle is stripped ^ (pic from the web)

I stripped the screw that goes into the charging handle and had a hell of a time getting it out, is there a common one that could replace it at Home Depot or is it one I'd have to get from JR?

Are you sure you stripped it? Were you able to get the charging handle out? It has a cover around it so you have to have it all the way back so the cover will fit into a semi-acicular cutout on the bolt carrier. Otherwise t spins like it's stripped and you can't get it off

Are you sure you stripped it?

Positive. I didn't have an allen key that fit perfectly, so eventually it got stripped. It seems that the next size bit fits now (due to forcing it in to get it out) so I'll try to reuse the same screw. If anyone knows if there is a common sized replacement, let me know.
