The JR Carbine Thread

My forend tends to drift out of alignment. Can you get some sort of bridge or clamp to tie the forend rail firmly to the receiver rail? I run iron sights and it's getting annoying to watch my zero drift because the forend starts to creep under recoil.

Ha, the exact same thing was happening the last time I went to the range, what a PITA, is that typical of all AR forends? Or just the JRs?

Get an Uplula magloader, saves your thumbs and greatly reduces reloading time. 10th round is an easy fit on all my mags, even with +10% springs.

A brake on the JR 40 is preferable to a hider. Or hider and buttpad! I got a little bruised shooting hundreds of rounds on a stock barrel. Started having trouble finding the comfortable spot in my shoulder. That hasn't happened since trap shooting with an 870 for 5 matches.. or when I dumped 200 rounds of -06 on a 5.5lb bolt action.

It only started when I put a bipod on. I think the recoil acting on it produces torque that loosens it. My AR has an aftermarket rail and there is a small tab on it that butts up against the receiver rail to prevent it from turning. I was looking at the ALG rail with its dual tabs for that same reason, but another post leads me to understand that the JR receiver is not of the same dimension of the AR, rendering those tabs useless.

I might replace the handguard anyway, to get a longer sight radius and a better look to the thing. Rifle barrel and carbine handguard just don't look good together.

I am in the process of mounting an ATI octagonal forend on my 9mm; it's just under 12 inches long and although I'd like to have gotten something a little bit longer, it looks a 1000% better than the stock one.

One problem that I have to resolve though; since the forend is slightly smaller in diameter than the stock one, it came with a new barrel nut to secure the barrel and for end. The problem is the threaded part that attaches to the front of the receiver and captures the lug-ring around the barrel has a small amount of excess threaded material; even torquing the nut down to 35ft-lbs ( the recommended max) against the receiver doesn't snug it up tight enough to securely hold the barrel.

I'm hoping some of the experts here can recommend the best way to fix this; I can see two options; cut or grind down the excess material on the face of the barrel bolt to allow it enough room to properly snug down and tighten the barrel, or try and find a washer or a crush washer the right size to back up the lug on the barrel and shorten the spacing up that way.

Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas to resolve this? I hate the idea of going back to the old look and feel of the stock forend. The ATI feels a lot better; eight sides with rails mounted only where you want or need them and smaller diameter overall is MUCH nicer to hold. I'm positive once I get the barrel snugged down properly it's going to be a lot nicer to shoot too. I suspect it'll be easier to reduce the length of the barrel nut than find a washer the right size, so that's likely the route I'll take unless someone has a better plan

go to an auto parts store and look for a drain plug washer. a crush type. VW DSG trans works almost perfect. place that between the nut and the flange on the barrel. tighten down like normal.

I too am looking at getting a 12" quad rail. Is there anything to look for when buying? Does any AR rail screw on?
Look forward to the help!!!

second that. Any forend for an AR fits, but you will likely have to do some additional shopping to make the new forend work. l am quite impressed at the ATI system both in appearance and price. The octagonal cross section makes it quite slim, it's nearly round, and very comfortable to hold. Unlike a lot of aftermarket forends, It also comes with a new barrel nut, and three different lengths of rail to attach. A little fooling with it and GTG

Got the 9mm, just need to range test it now

How long is that shroud? Just ordered my JR and would like to get a shroud on order before it shows up.

Looks awesome.

Mine is tearing the case mouths on one or two cases per mag now, even when manually cycled through the action.

I've got a theory that these SWC 45s of mine don't get the case centred properly when chambering and they're hitting the breach, always in the 4 or 10 o'clock position.

Back to casting RN bullets I think, before I run out of brass...

mines in 9mm and eats whatever i throw at it. A thousand rounds or so and maybe 5 fte. Shoots soft and is accurate. Cheap too feed also. I dont think people give the 9mm enough credit, coming out of an 18 inch barrel it hammers my 200yd gong.

I totally agree. And your JR is really cool looking. Hopefully see ya at POCO sometime!

And a gun store can have firearms reclassified. But let's keep this thread on topic please.

Hey guys , I'm looking pick a jr up in next few weeks but can't decide leaning towards the 9mm but would love the .45 .
I'm curious if the issues with the .45 have been resolved ? I emailed jr and asked if they have been resolved and if it's as reliable as the 9mm and got a response that doesn't doesn't make me feel any better lol .

Jr's response
- The current production 45 is very nearly as reliable as a 9MM.

Lol so as can see that didn't really answer my question , so any info be great from you guys .

For me it was the cost of ammo as well as reliability. The 9 shoots fairly flat and is bit cheaper as it's the only thing I don't own that I don't reload for. Just to high volume for my setup. But for what I use it for it has plenty of power. I'd pop a a deer with it within 50 yards for sure if I had the right bullets.

The real issue with the .45 is the mags imo. And I posted some reading and fix suggestions at the top of this thread I think.

For me 9mm was the obvious choice anyway. I have 2 Glocks in 9mm and it just makes more sense cost wise to shoot 9mm.

Well you could always pick a model you like, and then buy a caliber conversion kit for it later. The conversion kits are around $300, and you would have both.
