Here is one that my son nailed on the wing with his bow, 3,or 4 years ago... the judo tipped arrow went through its heart and knocked it outta the sky... we left the arrow in for the picture;

Never saw much of the quails on the Gulf Islands, I have never witnessed a "wild" pheasant either.

Apparently the first quail introductions to the Victoria area were in the early 1860s

Wow, that is a very early date for the Vancouver island area. A lot of Salish place names in the Saanich Peninsula are associated with blue grouse if you can believe it.

You don't use flu-flus for that kind of work hoyt? Or is that a target of opportunity on a treebound grouse sluicing mission?

We keep a judo tipped arrow in the quiver when hunting moose and deer... we were walking out from our deer stands when we spotted him running down a fence line... we knocked judo arrows and went after him... the bird flushed straight up from my side an swung across to my son's side... it didn't even occur to me to draw, but my son drew, followed and released... and dang... if that bird didn't tumble out of the sky.

Good shooting, I've never seen one penetrate like that. Would have been a rough time trying to find the arrow if he missed.

Pheasants in Alberta have no overwintered in years afaik, not sure about BC.
