Hi all. So I have a pretty health .22 collection, a Beretta collection and a budding milsup rifle collection but I would like to get into shotguns more. I have a few 12 gauges but would like people's opinions as to what is a good shotgun to add, to really get my new collection off the ground?

So far I have a couple of Cooey 84s, a Beretta o/u Silver Pigeon, a Mossberg bolt action and a 500. Any suggestions as to what should be next? The next shotgun would be the last one for this year so I wanted to get something nice with some history. I was thinking about a Browning A5 because I do not have a semi auto 12 gauge or a Winchester 1897 but would consider a model 12 because they are easier to come by. I have looked around and stores such as Epps and Shooters have both in stock. If the decision was yours, would you choose the A5 or the model 12? Or is there something else I should be looking at, a SxS perhaps. I would like something that is not imposible to find? I could start hunting for the rare items once the collection becomes a bit more established. Thanks for your thoughts.

This is a question that can't really be answered by anyone but yourself. There are so many shotguns with history that could be next from pumps to semi's to SxS'S to over/unders. You have only touched the tip of the iceberg as far as examples. It all comes down to what you desire most and how much you have to spend. If you don't set yourself to a specific gauge or type of shotgun, there will be no end. Hope you have deep pockets.

Lol, so true! I am sticking with 12 gauge 2 3/4 only. Let me ask you this, if give the choice would you get the A5 or model 12?

I have both lol, but I think if they were both field grade guns I would take the A5 if I had to choose. Just hold out for a nice one because there are a lot of both out there.

Good to know. I have noticed that prices are all over the place for both!

I recently sold an unfired 1953 A5 for $700. A nice shotgun to add to a battery! I got a 1928 Model 12 from the same place, but it was the old fellow's main duck gun. It hadn't been used in years. I also have a nice old 1914 Model 12. I just latched onto a Stevens 620A 12 ga. Now there's a real shotgun! :)
