SKS's back on the shelves at CTire

Alright, it was not meant as a racial slurrr... so if I offended, my apologies. Although, considering that 90+ % of everything in there is made in China, it wouldn't be a stretch to call it Chinese Tire... and I suppose if you're Chinese, you could find that to be complimentary.
 
A poster in this thread mentioned in another thread about a month ago that he calls it "Cambodian Tire" because whenever he goes there he can't find anyone who speaks English. He said they probably weren't Cambodian, and likely Chinese or Vietnamese, but he didn't think it mattered. He seemed proud of his reasoning too. Those comments were obviously racially charged. Surprised he was given an infraction or even banned.
 
Meh i could care less who makes it their mastercraft line has become top notch in recent years and carries a lifetime warranty with most items. I use their tools for my job and have zero issues other than that from abuse

Because I can buy a rifle with a fist full of Canadian tire money. It may take an hour for the cashier to count it but that's OK by me. The Canadian Tire I deal with will let you sort through the crate. Granted the quality of the SKS's at the time were mediocre.
I love the look on horrified faces in line when I buy a crate of ammo. A lady with 2 young kids asked me what the wood box was, I said ammunition, her jaw dropped and swiftly went to a longer line.... Priceless!

Well, my LGS made me wait 10 MONTHS to bring in a Take-down 10/22. THEN, SOLD IT WHEN IT FINALLY ARRIVED! CT had one for me in 4 WEEKS. $20 cheaper. 'Nuff said. I also tore 4 SKSs down right in the aisle to make sure everything matched before I bought them. Shoulda seen the looks I got when I spread the first one out!! Luckily, they have some fairly decent employees there who know a schmick about guns and know me. I'll continue to buy there, if they have what I want. I see no difference buying there or Cabela's or No Sale or LeBarons or Bass Pro. My LGS gets my MAJOR gun smithing work, but they are spoiled by the local economy and don't have much in the affordable lines. I watched one guy once, walk in with an X-bolt in .300 WM he had just bought a week earlier, place it on the counter, loudly state that it was not heavy enough for deer since he had just lost one after shooting it and it ran away. He wanted a .300RUM. Needed it now so he could get it sighted before using it later that day. They gave him 1/2 what he had paid the previous week ($800), then he laid another $1800 down on the counter for the new rifle(a Weatherby Mark V in, of course, .300 Weatherby Magnum) and scope. He didn't even keep his scope! How do I compete with that for preferred service? Gun counter guy (no names) stopped what he was doing with other customers and mounted and bore-sighted the new scope... I'm not a wealthy guy, but I ALWAYS get service in the gun section of CT.

For the record my beef with CT is customer service related and not racial, if they actually hired people that know how to do their job (Chinese, Indian, Caucasian, Cambodian or any other nationality for that matter.) that would be nice for a change. I don't give a #### what color you are or where you come from, as long as you know how to do your job. It's customer service after all...

One possible result of the big box stores selling guns........inventory management. Most local gun stores and many online retailers are far behind the times in inventory management. These stores have an abundance of "dead stock" that nobody seems to want, and are routinely "out of stock" for what is in demand. The whole firearms industry from manufacturers through retailers seem to be stuck in the last century. I don't know how retailers and manufacturers make profits when they have nothing to sell except what people are not interested in buying.

For a good part of my life i was a rather fanatical golfer. In big box stores i knew the quality of the gear was low, but i had too look. A great deal of the gear was left handed, and in golf it is 90% right handed/10% left. The person who ordered was not a golfer and did not know this, thus over ordering left handed gear. This is exactly what happens in big box outdoor and firearms stores that do not know their market. In Langley i went into the Wholesale sports fishing area and saw a great selection of Ontario bass gear when they first opened.

Someone else made a different, excellent point, in that any high volume big box store that stocks firearms is good for the firearms community. Have to strongly agree. Any public and high volume way of presenting firearms as a mainstream or normal activity goes much further to counter the propaganda of high profile Anti's than any 10 threads on CGN's.

Not everyone lives in SW Ontario and has the luxury of deciding which local gun store to spend their money in. For many, the local Canadian Tire is it for both guns and ammo. Being able to purchase "exotic" SKS, SVT or Moisin-Nagants at prices that won't break the bank locally is a real novelty for many rural gun nutz. Living up north or in a rural area few can afford to stand on principle for some bonehead corporate policy put in place 2000km away.

To your first point I was shocked to see an abundance of Turkey calls at some Canadian tire stores here in New Brunswick...

We don't have a Turkey season.

To your other point I couldn't agree more -- it's a good thing for us that people get to see firearms being sold and displayed in a large retail store.
 
Yep, the more stores that carry firearms the better. People will accept it as being more normal if they are exposed to it everywhere.
Heck, I remember when Sears, Walmart, Eatons, and Princess Auto had firearms!
 
Good to hear they are back in Simcoe, sold my old truck and found close to $90 in CT money, perfect for another SKS! And yes it is good that they are selling guns and they will be seen by the public. My 4 purchases this year were from Ely's (Simcoe -mom and pop), Erie Tracker (Pt. Colborne- mom and pop), CT Simcoe, and Sail in Etobicoke, so I'm 50/50 on corporate/mom pop, I really should be all mom pop, but sometimes in leaves a little more for ammo!

Yea, when I was a teenager, we went to the Sears bargain center/ catalogue pickup and right beside the cash register was a large barrel( hard cardboard steel rimmed barrel that they used to ship things in) and it was full of single shot no name .22 rifles! Sort of like now they put gum or bars at the register for last minute purchases, back then it was a single shot .22, just something to play with up in the woods plinking! $16. A piece! Huh, just throw one in with the rest of your stuff!

True....I remember every small hardware store in town had a gun rack full of long guns on the wall for sale . I bought my first deer rifle at the local hardware store when i was still in High School...170 bucks for a new Win. 32 Special.....I think I was 16 at the time , and the clerk never batted an eye , zero paperwork involved ; how times have changed....and not for the better....
 
Ha, well, I had my picture out of the catalogue of the Win. model 94, taped on my headboard at the age of 7, at that time they were, $94.95 I believe! Why have we lost so many freedoms, I think instead of going after the guilty parties, they just tar everyone with the same brush!
 
My local ct (Duncan B.C.) had a couple of really nice sks' in the glass case for $189. Beautiful stocks, silver bolt and bayo. no bbq paint. Not a bad price. They also had 1440 round surplus ammo cases on stripper clips for $225.

Yeah, because selling guns to random 16 year olds without any background checks is totally a good idea, especially today... Things have changed, for sure, but its not ALL for the worst.

Last time I was in CT, I was looking at a jacket that was on the clearance rack. It was totally made in Cambodia. So the name fits in my books.

And I agree its a good thing that CT is selling guns. More gun owners is almost always a good thing. Too bad their staff isn't even intelligent enough to find the right key to open the lock-up... Try to get a few boxes of ammo and spend an hour standing there while some kid tries 46 different keys, to then realize only management has that particular key.

blame the jacket manufacturer not the store, you going to start calling Atmosphere Chinasphere because they sell Arcteryx and Arcteryx is "Made in China"?

I would grab one of those, and $225 on clips is great, what country made that? I thought czech were the ones who put them on clips but I didn't think they were 1440 rounds, go get them!! Less than 17 cents a round!

12 years old. Mosher's Hardware. Middleton, NS. Walked in and paid $22 for a slightly used SS Cooey .410, a box of slugs, a box of #71/2 shot, and a box of #6 shot. Of course, everyone in there knew me and my family, but, no parents involved in the sale. I carried it home, WITHOUT a case, down the street amd the shells were in a bag ini my hand.
I actually remember a year later when they got out of the firearms sales. They had gotten broken into twice and lost guns. They just liquidated and stopped. They still sold ammo and hunting supplies as well as licenses, but no more guns.
Junior High, se brought guns to school on the bus!! Kept them in our lockers!! Then went out shooting at somone's house, on THEIR bus!! Parents came to pick us up. Even the Vice Principal called us in one day to ask us to go hunting out at his house after school, to bring down some of the rabbits taht were wrecking his garden. He hunted with us!!! No one got shot. No one got traumitized. No one got locked down!
