Shorten PAL Approval Times

Update:

Application Received on: 2014/10/24
Showed up Online Last Week of November
1 Reference Called in. No interview for me or 2nd reference.
Called a few times and they gave me the be patient run around.
Called the BC CFO directly today. Approved.

Applied for RPAL and PAL.

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Happy Shooting.

You can make the process take about only a day if you call in, get your application number and then have your reference call in on your behalf to initiate their interview. FYI have your reference press 1, 1, then 2533 and they will be taken directly to an interviewer. Don't waste anyone's time if you have not yet been assigned an application number. If you don't have a number assigned don't have your reference call in.

Provided you're not a criminal or a crackhead you should be good to go almost immediately.

Is the application number you mentioned the same number that you can get from the online status check?

I'd like to know this as well, seems you would still have to wait until they have entered it into the system before you'd be able to have anyone call in and they say this is currently taking 4-6 weeks. If they assign a reference number as soon as they receive it could be a different story.

When you visit the website and check your status. The application number posted is what you and your references use.

OK so I called rcmp I know they received my pal application on the 1rst of December cause I sent it express mail I just called them today and they said its not even in their system is there anything I can do?
I mean they have had it for two weeks and they don't even have it into their system that seems kind of silly.

You are now in the mandatory 28 day waiting period which starts when they receive it. As written everywhere on the cfc website.... After they've had it for that MANDATORY waiting period they will begin to process it.

It took mine about 4-5 weeks to appear online. Be patient. Once it's online call in and get a number for your references to call.

I would bank on first week or middle of January taking into account stat holidays and lack of staff due to holidays. Here is my full timeline (approved today).

- Wednesday, October 29, 2014 - Mailed papers via Canada Post XpressPost from Saskatchewan.
- Monday, November 3, 2014 - Papers delivered/signed for in Miramichi
- Friday, November 21, 2014 - Called. CSR stated they are 4 weeks behind processing mail.
- Monday, December 8, 2014 - Showed up online even though web portal was half mangled.
- Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - Called to inquire about status stating website is down and I can’t check (even though I could, mu haha). She verified all my information and said they were scanning the photo soon. She said to call back next week and that they would likely get one of my references to call in at that time.
- Monday, December 15, 2014 - Called to inquire if ready for reference checks. They confirmed it was that time. One reference called in within 2 hours quoting the application number on the website. License issued within 30 minutes of reference check.

application was for non-restricted? I'm in SK as well and wondering how long it'll take.

Hey guys, I ve been waiting since October for my pal. My buddies got theirs already. I had to enclose extra info and a note from the doctor. Im wondering if that is why it's taking longer. Anyone know direct line to bc cfo?

Just call the 1800 number. They normally prefer if your references call in rather than the other way around. Much more efficient this way.

I was a new applicant. PAL/RPAL.

The second it shows up online which could be 5 weeks (prob more if accounting for stat holidays, staff shortages due to holidays at this time of the year), call so they confirm all your information. Wait a week. Call back and ask if you can get ref to call in. Usually you can. Ref calls in and your done. Mine was approved 1 week from showing up online.
