It's been a long time since I shot ATA, I think the last time I shot a registered target was 2004? :(

Ever since I first set eyes on a Citori Golden Clays I have dreamed of owning one and together with wanting to return to ATA shooting the desire was even stronger to go back into the game outfitted with the gun and gear I wanted.

Well it's finally all come together. I started accumulating the required gear I need starting with some Randolph Ranger prescription shooting glasses. I wheeled and dealed a few guns and put in a ton of OT this year at work to save and acquire the gun I have dreamed of since the 90's. I bought it here on the EE from a fellow CGN'r.

Yesterday I finished gearing up with an order to Cabela's for a Browning Cimmaron shooting bag and Cimmaron shell pouch. I feel like a kid in the candy store. I have 7 flats of ammo set aside for spring start up.Thanks to a friend living in the U.S I have an original Browning recoil pad en-route from Browning USA to replace the after market Gooey pad that was installed on the gun.

To say I am anxious to get started is an understatement. Spring can't come quick enough!!

I am posting some pics, well quite a few pics actually of my new to me Trap Gun. Sorry if it's overkill or it seems like I am being a braggart, I am not trying to come off that way. I am just a wee bit excited to have finally put my dream together after working my butt off putting in hours and hours of OT the past year to be able to realize my dream.

And almost forgot, it's has 32" barrels.

First off my new Randolphs......thanks to a local optician known at the Lloyd club as Fast Eddie for putting these together for me. I can now see to hit something again!! :)

Welcome back. Hope you see lots of your old ATA pals.

I think it's going to be a whole new experience now that I am no longer in Ontario. I have already started meeting fellow trap shooters here at the local club when I went out a few times last summer to get reacquainted with the clay target games. Sounded like there is a group that does quite a bit of travelling in both SK & AB to various shoots. Looking forward to it and hopefully see some old acquaintances at the Canadian Championships in MB this summer?

A few more things to equip yourself with. Figure out who the trap communications emailer dude is and get on his email list so you know all the news and updates on the shoots. In SK I know who this is, can't help with AB though. Also get the "2015 shoot book" that contains details on all the shoots for the year.

The ATA has all the registered shoots for the Provinces listed on their web site. I would also get in touch with the ATA Delegate for each Province that you wish to shoot in and they can send you dates, locations and programs.

Nice to see your plan coming together... hope that you are not so jacked up that it ends up being a disappointment... if that happens, head over to the sporting clays course... as a hunter, you will probably really enjoy clays... nice gun BTW.

Thanks Hoyt! I have shot Sporting Clays out of the Temiskaming Bullseye Club many times over the years at all their DU events and club fundraisers and a few times at The Hamilton Gun Club as well as the course at The Orillia Gun Club. Sporting Clays is fun, no question, I absolutely enjoy it and it's relaxing for me because I am not competitive about it. I just try my best and imagine the targets are all big plumed Greenheads!! :d But when it comes to Trap I have a weakness for competing?! It's a good feeling when you know you win and did it without having to be one of the sandbaggers who can't get out of "D" class but seem to be able to consistently magically break 195+ in a 200 target race when their is money involved? ! Plus I really enjoy Trap for the personal challenge forever trying to best myself. That is actually the main reason, kicking the sandbaggers in the :kickInTheNuts: just a bonus!! ;):d

UPDATE:

Well I finally sourced an original Browning recoil pad to bring the gun back to original and had it nicely fitted thanks to Vic Tomlinson...excellent work BTW!! Here is the finished product mounted and ready to go..... :)

Then I spent the better part of an hour and a half tweeking the recoil pad angle adjustments on the Gracoil and getting the adjustable comb to where I thought it all looked and felt right. I was hoping to get out and do some patterning because besides the stock adjustments I also replaced all the aftermarket chokes I received with the gun back to original Browning flush mount chokes in stainless steel. Well it never worked out that I was able to get to a pattern board before the club finally opened Monday evening and I was chomping at the bit to fire this gun since I had bought it last July and had yet to fire a single round through it. Everything went off really well and I do not think any further tweeking is necessary. In it's inaugural run I broke a 98x100 dropping the first target out of the house.....f:P:2: then another shortly into the second bank and finishing off the last two banks straight. 24-24-25-25. Most of the breaks were good hard hitting crushing inkballs but a few got chipped too. It also felt really good to get out and hear, feel and smell all the associated sounds that come with shooting trap. It's been 4 long years with only two rounds of trap fired in that time (last summer one evening trying out a model 12 I purchased here on CGN). This new to me gun fits and shoots like a dream......now to start travelling to ATA shoots and get some targets!! :d:d

Woy too good shooting on you first outing for me, but I do love your gun, and your enthusiasm.
Our first BP trap shoot of the year was a lesson in frustration with the howling wind, and snaky targets.
Still, foremost was the intent to have fun.
Best of luck with your shooting revival.
