Norinco .223 ammo issues in my Colt AR

Pisses me off considering the last time I got norc ammo I had no issues. I'm going to have to play around with different mags and ammo I guess to see what the cause is. Maybe the riveting is ####tily done on the pmags (got them all from the same retailer).

Is the rivet hitting the mag well?should be easy to tell since there'll be a line.

Regarding Norinco 5.56mm I have seen a high dud rate, case head failures, case head separations, neck separations, butter soft rims, over sized bullets, undersized bullets, unstable bullets, apparent under and over pressure rounds and bullets loose in the case neck (this last one allows the bullet to set back very easily and causes the casing to hang up as per the OPs issue and a number of other frustrated shooters I have had on the line).

On the plus side it is cheap.


I have seen nothing that gives me faith in their ammo.
 
There seems to be different types of norinco ammo. Some come in yellow boxes, some come wrapped in paper. I have not shot the ones in yellow boxes yet, but I have gone through a spam can of brown wrapping paper packs of 20. Accuracy is not so hot but the ammo has been 100% reliable in ar.
 
Strange that they're side Rivet and not spine rivet but anythings possible tbh. Like most people have said its fairly unlikely to be feed ramp or ammo related.

I found it strange as well. First time I've seen it. I just filed down the rivet and I'm still getting the same issues. I'm going to have to wait until I get my hands on more mags I guess..

Don't file it too much though, did that mistake, had to go buy rivets and a rivet gun that same say.
 
Check your followers and see if they're canted forward with the Norc rounds. If the mags are side riveted, it might be doing something funky to the spring or follower. I've run Norc (3200rds or so) through every AR/Black Rifle and Mag type in my inventory without issue.

The followers are stuck the way they are due to the rivets... There's the same amount of pressure with the base plate off the mags. Our laws annoy me.. First my Glock mags now my pmags.. I'll probably have to buy a rivet gun now.

Maybe they were too new, but they wouldnt seat on a closed bolt. Usgi metal mags always seat with a good twack to the bottom.

Sounds like it's a problem with where the mags where pinned, not the mags themselves.

I'm gonna state the obvious here, and I'm not being a git about it, but maybe check with some spine riveted mags and see how they feed.

I've used USGI, HK, P-Mag and even one or two of those terrible old Canadian plastic mags and I've found the followers and mag seat were almost always what was causing feed issues in our service weapons.

Let's see, barrel pointed to the ground in both scenarios, safety on... Only difference being indoors. I feel as if many people in the world load (or in my case attempt to load) firearms indoors everyday and babies don't die. It's called due diligence. I take firearm safety very seriously. You're being a safety nazi over nothing. Inside or outside doesn't matter. Worse case scenario there's a hole in the ground in both scenarios, and the chances of that happening are NIL when the proper precautions are taken... Mind your own business please.

I'm being fairly nice about this, you have no idea obviously how irresponsible you are with firearms. I'll leave it at that, enjoy your guns while you have them.

Totally. Next time you go to an indoor range, don't forget to load the gun outside first! Kittens could die!
