Vihtavuori Powder - opinions

mine for minor (9mm) is 3.3grs of VV320 under a 147fmj at 1.130 aol and it's very sweet and recoiless.

look around, there's plenty of uspsa guys (and gals lol) using it in both production and limited major with 180grainers .

in ipsc standard class ( we shoot 40 S&W major) , i see a lot of guys running like headless chickens for international clays which is a shotgun powder.

yes, faster burning powders means pressures building up fast, but it provides a very fast recoil pulse which instills a fast muzzle flip up-down, and that is what make fast powders interesting when it comes to fast double taps.

I kinda know that, and the fact many GM shooters in USA use 120-130gr bullets in 9mm Prod guns; to get faster cycling as opposed to 147+gr bullets. I'm referring to 9mm Minor PF here only.

Many if not majority of powders used in 9mm and .40s&w loads ARE shotgun powders.

I have used N310 for target ammo. In a number of calibers it made the most accurate ammo.

I suggest you use the N310 with lead bullets in the 45 (like the 200 SWC) and the N320 in the 9mm.

The problem with Vht powders is that it is like a friend giving you some expensive wine to try.

Tt might be better that you never know.

I must be one cheap SOB. I just paid $118 for 8lbs of Titegroup. I don't think you can get 4lbs of VV320 for that price, can you?

X2.
I don't think that VW powder being twice the price of reg powder will give you twice the performance....
I don't use VW powder and don't intend to unless price drops to reasonable level.

The price is pretty negligible when you factor finished price of a thousand rounds (factoring all components) and only changing the powder.
Not only is it cleaner burning, I believe the VV runs considerably cooler with lower flame temps. as well (with a rather unscientific test of comparing heat generated after firing 200 rounds of ammo propelled by titegroup compared to similar with n310 in two identical pistols side by side).

It is hard to justify the prices if one is seeking to cut costs or just making plinking ammo though.

That and I'd have to either buy it online or drive nearly 3 hours to get it.

I'll be happy when we start getting Bullseye back on the shelves.

But for giggles, which VV is a titegroup/bullseye replacement for everything from .38 to 45Colt, and which one would you use instead of 2400 for magnum handgun? I'm driving nearly 3 hours in the direction of a dealer next weekend.

Thanks for all the input guys, first batch of V V powder was a real success with the 9mm loads we put together (100 rounds). Very little clean up on the firearms after shooting compared to factory. Followed the V V loading charts (less 10%). Didnt chrono the loads but they worked well on paper. Thanks!!

Not for standard 9mm. Too slow.

3N37 was developed for 9mm. It is the best powder for max velocity loads with 115 to 147 gr bullets. not good for down loading for plinker loads.

I have used a lot of VHT powders. In my opinion VHT is the best powder available, followed by Bofors.

I used to buy VHT wholesale for around $9.00 a pound from the American importer. The deal was available if purchases were $5,000 or more.

I got a pound of n32C (tin star) to try. I loaded 5 grains with 158 gr bullet for 357 for cowboy action. My groups with Rossi rifle (open sights)
at 30 yards were 1 inch, which is almost exactly the same as Unique powder with 4.8 grains. All in all I think it is good stuff, but I still wish
I could find Unique.

All I've used is 20N29. It's so slow that there might not be a cartridge smaller than the 50BMG that can't take a full case and still be under max pressure.
